The Doctor stared at Amy, slack-jawed, at the idea that River could fly the TARDIS. It didn't help when she suggested that he ask for a bit of help from his companions, either. "What? No! No, it would not help to let someone help me fly the TARDIS! Well, maybe Rose, but the average human being has no idea how complicated time travel is, and I'm not about to get into the habit of setting up a training program." Unless he did in the future, the other him, which would explain how River knew how to fly his ship.
"It's fine," he said, about the state of his TARDIS when she pressed the issue a little further. "It's fine, really. I got the good end of the deal, if you think about it. I got Rose. I can live without a TARDIS for a few years if it means I get to spend that time with Rose." He smiled a little. "I don't suppose he's told you about her, either."
