WHO: Number One & Cole McGrath; OPEN TO OTHERS WHAT: Intent on shirking responsibilities and acting her age for once, Number One throws an impromptu get-together to celebrate her 18th birthday. WHERE: the roof of Venus Unlimited WHEN: 9:30 PM, December 18th RATING: TBD
She wasn't sure what drove to do it. Maybe it was the recent near-death experience in the cemetery. Maybe it was knowing that she couldn't escape the Mogadorians, not even here, in this strange and unexpected place she got sucked into. Whatever the case, it was miracle that she survived to her 18th birthday. That was as good a reason as ever to celebrate, to really celebrate herself and life in general. It wasn't entirely true that she had no friends back home. In spite of Nicholas' warnings to keep her head down whenever they moved to a new town somewhere, One always had her share of childish rebellion that drove her to socialize anyway. In her opinion, they were more likely to draw unwanted attention by freely allowing themselves to be outcasts. Townspeople were never more suspicious of newcomers than when they kept to themselves. It was simply not human nature to isolate. Humans craved companionship. They were creatures with social needs. They were not meant to be alone.
Besides, she always argued, if she was in on all the latest gossip, she could ensure that they were not the ones being gossiped about. Furthermore, though this was obviously a stretch on her part, One thought she could keep better tabs on dangers this way. In case any problems did spring up, she would be able to come up with an appropriate response in time. Now that she was in another entirely new place, and all by herself this time, she figured she needed to make some able friends. Buffy and Sylar were good starts. From taking on the Mogadorians with her, Buffy showed that she could handle herself in a tight spot. While Sylar had not displayed his numerous abilities to her, if what he said about himself was true, One trusted that he was amply powerful as well. Leaving a post on the message board, she hoped that either one of them might see it and come out to celebrate with her tonight. Somehow, she thought Buffy might be more likely to show up to a party, however last minute it was, but who knows. Maybe she would be surprised. She hoped Amy might make an appearance as well. She almost decided to text the redhead, having traded phone numbers during the Halloween Ball, but hopefully she would just come if she had time.
She was a little surprised that a complete stranger would not only offer up an idea for a birthday activity, but accept meeting up with her randomly. Even if Nicholas considered her to be a little naive and innocent to the ways of the world at times, One was no idiot. The casual acceptance might have made her leery, but in light of recent events, One was fairly confident that she could take care of herself if the necessity arose. Since offering to pay for a new pair of pants for Buffy, One had decided to actually get a job so she could buy things. She ended up landing a position as a barista at Grounds For Insanity and she couldn't be happier. It was the perfect gig for her. She had enough pep in her to make anyone think the coffee there was good. With her first paycheck, she went on a shopping spree so she could actually have a decent wardrobe.
Tonight, she dressed in layers, mindful of the cooling temperatures. When she found her way to Venus Unlimited, she admired the window display. This could be her kind of place, deserving of a second look during daylight hours. But for tonight, it was only meant to play venture to her impromptu birthday adventures. Now to get up onto the roof. Not in the mood to find an undoubtedly tricky way to climb up, she looked around. Not seeing anyone nearby, she stepped back and took a running start before leaping skyward. With a little help from her telekinesis, she propelled herself up the side of the building with the occasional hand and foot holds.
