Ares shrugged casually. "I suppose if you give me detailed enough drawings I might consider making you the weapon you want myself. It'll give me a chance to practice my skills. I might even turn it into a group project for some of my students that are learning weapon forging."
At Buffy's question about Bacchae, Ares' gaze stared past Buffy as if he was reminiscing in his mind. After a moment his attention came back to her. "Bacchae? Oh they are of course legendary creatures that doesn't really exist. They are the followers of Bacchus." Ares said as if that explained everything, when he noticed that Buffy's face showed no recognition he continued.
"Bacchus was the Greek God of Wine. His followers were always female and part of the ceremonies they went through was the drinking of his blood. This turned them into full Bacchae. Their faces and bodies would turn very pale. Their eyes would become golden with a thin circle of red around the edges and their fingernails would become curving dark talons. The Bacchae prowled the night, attacking men in a drunken orgy leaving them the men torn and mutilated after they had their fun with them. Any women the Bacchae come across they would bite and turn into more Bacchae fledglings. The women could theoretically be saved if Bacchus the God was killed before the fledglings could drink of his blood but if the fledglings were taken to the ceremony and drank of his blood? They were doomed eternally to be Bacchae until they are killed."
Ares gave another casual shrug. "And silver weapons were the only way they could be killed. Oh. And Bacchae could be lured into sleep by the playing of a skilled musician. Course as I say they are legendary creatures and don't really exist."
"The stories are more cautionary tales against women getting drunk at night and not being home with their men than anything else but at one time the legends of the Bacchae definitely owned the night and no sane or cautious person was caught wandering after the sun had set."
