Well, there was paying attention and then there was paying attention. One meant a spatial awareness than lowered the likelyhood of walking into something solid, the other meant a certain type of paranoia that allowed an obsessive knowledge of the area around the personal space bubble. Clark fell in somewhere between the two. As it happened, he was keeping an eye more on the sky around him than everything parallel to the sidewalk, halfway expecting a bolt of lightning or an attack of some sort. It wouldn't have been the first time, but still, the over-caution didn't make him feel all that good.
He passed Tanith, inclining his head in a polite nod, accompanying it with an "Afternoon" before pausing in front of the door. There was a wider, open area just a few steps down, but experience at the lumber yard in Smallville had taught him that not all drivers pulled through carefully, and he didn't want to wreck any vehicles unless absolutely necessary. Right. Time to stop stalling.
Clark took a deep breath, opened the door and stepped into the yard office. "Excuse me, could you tell me what town this is? I'm a little lost."
