Even though she had a good reason, Niki did feel sort of out of place with everyone else in Red Oak. She noticed people and half wondered if perhaps they were going through the same thing that she was or if they had simply lived there all of their lives. Niki didn’t make a habit out of asking people so she kept to herself, voiding any and all human interaction since she didn’t know what to really say. It felt odd to strike up a conversation with someone she didn’t know, let alone someone who probably didn’t know whether they were going crazy or not.
Though, despite this, Niki knew she couldn’t be unfriendly. She couldn’t ignore a person just because she didn’t have the courage to introduce herself. The man who spoke looked harmless enough and it was easy to see that he was only being polite to her. Niki offered a smile, doing her best to be as friendly and open as he was. “Hello,” she replied, her body turning just slightly so that she could look at him without having to turn her head.
