"I mean," he drew it out since he even though it sounded ridiculous to say aloud, "literally." He had definitely been chasing his future form, the very same future it seemed the Hiro Nakamura who told him to 'save the cheerleader' had come from if the overall brooding and dark clothing seemed standard, and unfortunately, a rookie Petrelli was no match for someone who had seen a city explode before his eyes and a good amount of people decimated in his wake.
He was a Petrelli who had seen a future were metahumans were hunted down and captured like animals; where someone like Niki would be held in a prison for the rest of her existance if there wasn't a resistance hiding in the shadows; and where people were able to gain abilities through something as simple as an injection. This Peter Petrelli was nothing of the sort, and couldn't hope to hold a candle to his successor from a few years gone, especially in light of his arrival to Red Oak and complication of the timelime and his fate in it all.
"I shot my brother, but at the same time, I didn't." Peter said, a small smirk coming to his lips although it seemed more sad and indicative of his speculation about her reaction. Her comment enough put some of him at ease, but even he couldnt' be sure if she meant it figuratively or quite literally as in his case. "I'm hoping someone got him to a hospital -- there were others there who would call -- but being here, I'm not sure what really happened."
