Summary: Dahlia hunts for a cat

Waking up was strange. It wasn’t really because the cabin had changed; that alone hadn’t really surprised Dahlia in any way. It wasn’t even the shift of roommate or the fact that the kitten was missing (though that did make her…nervous.) No what was truly strange to Dahlia is that she’d been asleep at all. That was her first thought when she woke and her continued thought as she quietly wandered through the changed cabin to see what they’d done. What last she remembered she’d been awake and holding tightly to the floor so she wouldn't fly away…then she woke to a room put back together and the strange fears wiped away. The drugged rest she'd been given helped her exhaustion, in a way, but didn’t smooth it all away like it had done to the fears. She still looked…weary. Dark circles still lined her eyes and hunger still gnawed at her…though it was distracted by the new week.
It was early. The sun was bright outside the window. Dahlia debated lingering in the cabin until it grew dark but her nagging worry about the kitten made the decision for her. She was going to go out.
Dahlia took a moment to attempt to look…better. She actually brushed her hair and gave more than a passing thought to the clothing she put on. She even remembered shoes this time which…was a bit of an accomplishment for her lately. She even tried to cover up those obvious signs of sleeplessness. Which, for Dahlia, tended to only accentuate them but she did try. Which was something.
Once she was ready she paused; lingering to see if she could hear any signs of Sin being awake but the cabin was quiet. Instead of waking her; which Dahlia knew better than to do, she left a note in the kitchen. It didn’t exactly say much…just a quickly scrawled good morning, I’m your roommate, the kittens are missing and if I remember I’ll bring some food back to the cabin. Details weren’t Dahlia’s strong suit and truth was she wasn’t entirely sure what to say. She didn’t know if Sin would be okay with having her as a roommate or not. Dahlia wasn’t sure either…
Sin knew her better than others…it would be harder to hide from her. To…pretend to be okay.
Pushing all that away Dahlia grabbed her bag and headed outside; wincing slightly at the bright light before she remembered her sunglasses. They helped but the light was still…unpleasant.
It was tempting to just go back inside. Curl up, try to find escape, or sleep, in the dark…
Except that the kitten was supposed to be her responsibility wasn’t it? Dahlia wasn’t good at caring for things but she’d told herself she’d do better with the kitten. Was it better to just assume the people behind the screen had taken them away? A part of her wanted to think so but with the kitten’s items still left behind it made her think that they were out there…somewhere…
At least the weather wasn’t bad for them to be out in.
Dahlia didn’t really know where to look though. Or how to even start. Cheshire was…very very good at hiding. So much so that Dahlia had begun to wonder if he could camouflage like Otis said his cat could. Or maybe he could teleport? Or go invisible like Chrissie? All Dahlia knew is more than once he’d been seemingly missing from the cabin.
It had made her wonder if he was just hiding in the cabin now but Sin’s cat hadn’t been in the cabin either and then there was Aiden’s note so…most likely he wasn’t hiding.
Sighing Dahlia pushed hair from her face and just…started walking in one direction. She didn’t think this would work but she’d try. If it didn’t maybe she’d ask Jaime for help later.
At least this gave her something to do….a focus to set her sights on rather than be distracted by her own head.
Of course she should have been wary of wandering alone. It wasn’t being safer like she told herself long ago to be…. But none of that seemed to falter her steps as she set out through the new terrain.
