Jake had stayed up to watch the scenery change. Or ... he'd thought he had. He didn't recall going to bed, but he'd woken up there. Which meant what? It hadn't taken long for him to realize the bed had been upgraded -- and that the orientation was wrong. He wasn't usually quick to wake, but the situation alarmed him. Swinging his legs out of bed, Jake made his way to the bedroom door, letting himself out. He noticed immediately that the cabin had changed. Somehow. It took a moment for it to sink in that there was only one bedroom now. One bedroom. Were they all one bedroom now? Had they lost six people? That was ... a third of them, wasn't it? Jake swallowed hard, fumbling at his pajama pants for pockets that didn't exist before he retreated to his bedroom to find his phone. He checked the network and noted the sticky before he popped up a blank private message to scroll through the list of contacts. Everyone was still on it, and that relaxed him a little before he frowned. Even if everyone was here, he still only had one bedroom. Did everyone? He didn't bother scrolling past the sticky or posting anything himself. Instead, he changed into shorts and a tanktop before sliding his feet into his sandals. When he couldn't immediately find the bathroom, he retreated to his room and saw it there. Weirder and weirder. After washing up, Jake headed out the front door. He paused to study the porch, and the sensation of another shoe about to drop strengthened. What the fuck was going on? Breaking into a light jog, Jake hurried the distance to the Keep, letting himself inside. He looked around to see who was there, and his eyes lingered on the back corner. Something there was different, too, and it took him a moment to realize the booth was gone, and there was a door instead. Licking his lips, he held his arms loosely at his sides as he looked around again to see if he could spot anything else different. Jake couldn't make sense of the changes, and that bothered him. It wasn't any more or less nonsensical than usual, but somehow being isolated in a single cabin with no chance of having a cabinmate was unnerving. Why? Were they closing things off? Was this all that was left, all that was going to be until the end? And whoever dropped off wasn't going to be replaced? It was pointless speculation, he knew, but he couldn't help it. |
