With things settling down, more or less, Jake was doing his best to enjoy the scenery. It was a little warm for his tastes during the day, but not warm to the point where he wanted the freezer. Still, he didn't exactly spend a lot of time wandering around. He'd gone to check on April, had a little chat with her, heard the story of what had happened the night she'd injected. Nothing about it surprised him. Pissed him off, sure, but didn't surprise him. She seemed all right now though. A little tired, maybe a little sadder than he liked to see her, but all right. In the course of their conversation though, things had come up that had gotten him very interested in Eli. While he had surrendered his guardianship of Jaime to Mike when he came back, most of the other girls in the dome who'd been around for a while fell very firmly under Jake's imaginary umbrella of protection. Whether they knew it or not, whether they wanted it or not, it was there. They were his surrogate sisters, if only in his mind, and he extended to them the exact same big-brotherness he extended to his sisters. Even if Miri was older than him. His plan, what there was of it, was minimal. He was going to head to Doug's cabin, see if Eli was there and get a feel for him. If not, he'd see if Doug was there and see if he could con him into sharing his computer for a little while. He had no intentions of dropping anything he'd picked up from April, but if he didn't think Eli was good for her, he'd keep a careful eye on that situation. The guy was new, and Jake wanted to make sure he was sticking around before he let him into the circle. Once he'd made his way through the grass and flowers to Doug and Eli's cabin, he lifted a hand to rap on the door. |
