There was no snow. This was the first (and really only) thing Jaime noticed about the week change. There was no snow. There was warm and there were flowers and there was no snow and that was glorious. It would be fantastic fishing weather, but when she asked herself where the pond was, she got nothing. Which she simply assumed meant there was no pond this week. Not unusual; she was pretty sure there'd been other weeks without one. Disappointing though -- it would've been super nice to sit out and splash in the shallow part of the pond while Mike fished. Oh well. After her morning run to the Keep for breakfast, she found that the TV was still missing. No surprise there. Nothing else looked really changed though, so she'd scooted back to the cabin to drop off breakfast for Mike whenever he woke up. She showered and dressed (shorts and sandals and a short-sleeved shirt) and headed back outside after making sure her phone was tucked into her pocket. She hadn't made it very far when she saw a horse laying, relaxing in the wild flowers. A horse. For half a second she wondered if it was Aiden, but ... he wouldn't just be laying around, right? When she saw the foal bounding around nearby, she guessed the horse wasn't Aiden. So they had horses this week. That was friggen sweet, and she wondered if she could ride one. She didn't have a bridle, but so what? She'd gone without tack before. "Hey, pretty girl," she called softly. The mare glanced her way, ears flicking lazily, and Jaime smiled. Were they domestic? They looked it. Like Quarter Horses, maybe, though it was hard to tell with the mare laying down. She certainly didn't seem alarmed. Easing forward carefully, Jaime reached down between the flowers to pluck out handfuls of grass as she made her way over to the mare. "Hey, pretty girl," she said again, extending a small part of the grass to the mare. After a whuffle of investigation, the horse lipped at the grass, and Jaime grinned as she ran her hand lightly down the mare's face. Wow. Wow this was awesome. She had no idea what else the week was going to bring, but right now, they had horses. Settling down on her knees by the mare, she ran her hands over her neck and shoulders, inhaling the familiar horse smell, feeling the warmth of her fur. She felt an almost crushing wave of homesickness, an ache to be back at a track, to be surrounded by this on a daily basis ... but she'd take what she could get. A mare and a foal for a week -- she'd call it good. Jaime had a feeling she was going to be spending a lot of time outside this week. |
