It was probably foolish to take a shower, put on deodorant and blow-dry one's hair in order to go out for a run, but that was Eran all over. There was no possible way he could fathom going out where he might see other people unshowered. It wasn't so much that he was vain, it was more that he was insecure enough that he felt the need for full armor, so to speak. People generally found him attractive, but he wasn't willing to test that theory by leaving his room looking ratchet... whatever the male version of that might be.
He stopped in the kitchen, which was mercifully empty, and grabbed a bottle of water and a protein bar, then headed out into the warm, gorgeous day. He was wearing a t-shirt and running shorts along with socks and running shoes, and as he made his way away from the house, he found himself relaxing a bit. Eran took a deep breath and exhaled it, enjoying the feel of the sun on his hair. The heat of it was nice, even if it made him think of how poorly regulated his internal thermostat had been when he'd been carrying about eighty extra pounds. He'd been hot all the time, hot when other people were freezing cold, and he'd suffered in the summers before he'd lost the weight. He'd almost been resentful of people who weren't wearing the flesh equivalent of a heavy cashmere sweater and winter coat they couldn't remove, and it hadn't mattered that it had been his own fault.
Eran huffed out a sigh and tried to push those thoughts out of his mind, because they never did him any good. He'd accomplished something many people could not, and thus far he was keeping the weight off. He didn't have to keep torturing himself. Easier said than done, but he worked at it as he walked quickly to warm up, eating the protein bar and tucking the wrapper into his sock-- it would be a shame to litter somewhere so pretty-- and drank some water. Finally he began to run, and soon he found a path that led into the shadowy woods; the trees would provide some relief from the hot sun.
