Breaking
Characters: Dahlia and Aiden
When: : Tuesday – Sometime between 6am and 7am
Location: Downstairs common room
Warnings/Rating: Anger
Summary: Dahlia has a (hallucinated) conversation with her twin
Status: Closed, complete
Dahlia wanted to explore. Through her window she had viewed the scenery and even if she knew it would likely have nothing fun out there she had to try. She wanted to see each place; explore all that the show was making for them. Her plan was a simple one. Paint until it was early enough that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t be so hot. Getting lost in her artwork all night was easy…remembering to let go of it in time to explore was much more difficult. Still she managed and by sometime after five am she was out of her room and tip toeing through the house in an attempt to not wake anyone. Her simple plan had not been thought out very clearly however; Dahlia forgot to put on the sunscreen and the only true consideration to the weather was to remember to bring a water and to wear just a white shirt and some shorts. It was going to be hot so don’t wear much...again sound but not well executed.
Outside the sun had yet to rise to its full potential. The air was hot and the sand swirled about her feet as she walked. She didn’t plan to go far and really had not planned to stay out long enough for the sun to even fully rise. But Dahlia had lost track of time and when she rose from investigating a little nest she realized just how bright it had become. A glance upwards at the sky sent a stabbing pain through her eyes and with the shock of pain came the realization that she was very…pink.
A quick retreat to the house seemed in order.
By the time she stumbled back inside it was after six and Dahlia was not feeling too good. A headache had bloomed right behind her eyes and her pale skin was a touch too warm. Her unfed stomach was queasy and sleep worn eyes blurred as she slowly stumbled towards the first dark room she found. Sluggishly she slumped into a chair and closed her eyes.
She wanted to just sleep. She curled up and tucked her head against the arm rest…she could feel sleep tugging at her. A long denied need that threatened to swallow her whole.
Until she heard a voice.
"Dahlia…"
Weary eyes opened; glancing around the nearly dark room. A small lamp in the corner illuminated just a section of the room. A section enough for Dahlia to spot a figure. At first the shape was faint; an outline of someone familiar but unrecognized. But lips moved to form her name again and Dahlia knew who it was. She also knew that it couldn’t be her. It just…couldn’t.
“Dai?” she mumbled; limbs frantically pulling her to her feet despite how the room swayed. Somehow lips managed to curl into a smile as she approached. Tentative fingers reached out from the form; slowly smoothing against Dahlia’s cheek to prove how real they were. "Sister…" Dahlia’s smile beamed as Dai spoke again. She did not know how this could be real but she was too lost in happiness to care. She wrapped the other up in a hug strong enough to crush air from lungs but Dai didn’t seem fazed. She returned the hug with vigor and stroked Dahlia’s hair.
“Is it really you?” Dahlia questioned as she pulled back enough to look at her twin. Dai’s eyes crinkled with smile that suddenly…shifted. The edges of her lips twisted and once petting fingers jerked Dahlia’s head back by her hair. "You mean because I am dead?" she hissed with another harsh tug that nearly sent Dahlia off her feet and suddenly plunged the room into darkness. "You mean because you killed me?" Dahlia’s eyes went wide and hands rose to try to get Dai to release her hair.
Dahlia knew Dai’s rage. She knew how mad she could get sometimes. She’d felt it…she’d done bad things because of it. But this was different. It had never…hurt so much.
“No…I didn’t” Dahlia whispered frantically but Dai only laughed and shoved her sister into the wall. Air whooshed out of Dahlia’s lungs as Dai drew in close. "You think you can run away from that here? That you can ever run away from that?" Dahlia choked on the words that tried to form and though her hair was still gripped she shook her head repeatedly. "You killed me. You killed her. Now you’ll kill him." lips that matched Dahlia’s own spit words of venom that brought tears to Dahlia’s eyes. “He’s not dead…” she near whimpered; having lost the will to even struggle against the hands that kept her pinned.
"No? You think our father could care for himself? He’s happier you’re gone but he won’t last the year. He will die and you will have no one." Dahlia closed her eyes; wishing away all the words that now circled through her head. “He will be okay. He said he was…” her protests were feeble and died as she was slammed back to the wall again. Pain lanced up her back and her limbs trembled.
“Dai...stop...” she attempted while refusing to open her eyes. "Look at me sister." Dahlia refused to open her eyes but her body was flung to the floor and instinctually her eyes shot open as she attempted to catch her fall. A startled cry resounded through the room as she tumbled over herself. Dai’s face greeted her…flesh grey and eyes clouded in death. Dahlia sucked in breath and tasted the decay as she screamed “Stop it!”
"You can’t hide here any better than you could hide at home. You won’t make it here. He won’t make it. You will be just like me…" Dahlia scrambled backwards as her sister stalked forward. Her back hit the wall; she tucked herself into the corner and drew knees to her chest in a failed attempt to hide away. "Dead Dahlia. You will be dead too." Dai whispered, softly caressing fingers against Dahlia’s tear soaked pink cheeks.
Dahlia shuddered and pressed her face to her knees; trembling as she rocked back and forth and felt as though a vice was crushing her chest. “I didn’t do it...” She mumbled over and over again “I didn’t!” a panicked declaration as she huddled in the corner. Wanting more than ever for her sister, her twin, her best friend, her ever present companion...to just go away.
