"Different," April agreed easily as she closed some of the distance between them. "Not what I was expecting," she added, then felt kind of silly -- first for expecting anything at all, and then for imagining something like this could be expected.
So she shrugged slightly to wave off the statement, her wings rustling slightly with the movement. "Have you ... seen any animals or anything out here? I saw a squirrel back there a ways but it seemed ..." She hesitated. "Mundane, I think, for something like this. It makes me wonder if sometimes there are leftover animals between changes."
She wasn't sure that was possible, or if it made sense, but there it was. She wasn't sure how they did the changes or corralled the animals in between so wasn't it possible some escaped whatever system they were using?
Not, she guessed, that it mattered much. Not for the little animals, anyway. And maybe they meant to have squirrels here. So she smiled faintly instead, and shifted the conversation to something she was more inclined to talk about. "Are you playing in the art contest?" There was something like amusement in her eyes at the question. She reasoned Dahlia would -- April herself intended to eventually -- but she was curious if Dahlia had started yet.
