Jake thought maybe it was the lack of doing something they might've asked her to do that could've prompted it. If they'd given her an ultimatum and she hadn't followed through, it was possible they decided she wasn't a good fit and taken her out.
He tried not to consider where she might be now. Back in prison? Or worse? Was there somewhere else they could take them? It was a dark thought, and it wasn't one he was interested in pursuing. So he didn't. There weren't any good alternatives for her.
"I don't think anyone can promise they won't leave," he murmured. "Because we don't know how bad it's going to get. We don't know that they won't find our breaking point, force us out. Or make things bad enough for us to need to leave. I want to promise I won't go, but ... I wouldn't lie." To her. To anyone in here. He'd try. He'd try to stay. But if he couldn't, he couldn't. He did hope Dahlia didn't leave, but it was selfish of him. He didn't want Jaime or Mike to leave either, or Eli for April's sake, but he'd understand if they did have to leave.
He smiled. "One of the sad truths of life, kiddo. You can't run away from yourself. No matter how fast you go, no matter how long you run. You can't escape yourself." He regarded her as she offered to go, and he shook his head. "Only if you want to. I'm up for another couple hours at least. I don't mind if you want to stay here. Or need to stay here." There was, he knew, a difference between the two. If she needed company, or wanted it, he'd be here for her.
