He nodded when she explained. Or didn't explain. He missed the whisper, though he was aware she'd said something. But there were other things to worry about -- like her declaration upon his return. "Shit," he swore softly.
It wasn't so much Sin's absence that concerned him, but its effect on Dahlia. Sin was gone, fine. He wasn't surprised by that. He didn't think he'd exactly helped with that situation, either, but it didn't surprise him, all things considered, to hear she was gone. He knew it would make most of the population breathe easier -- it wasn't exactly a secret she didn't have a lot of fans.
He listened as she went on, regarding her as she trailed off. When she didn't continue, Jake shook his head. "It's ... possible it wasn't her decision. Maybe ..." He cleared his throat. "It's possible they didn't like how she was or wasn't acting. Maybe ... they did it. Pulled her out." Was it possible? He didn't see why not. Sure, they could resign but maybe there was something in the contract about multiple instances of misbehavior. Maybe Sin had done something else.
Or maybe she really had just left. Maybe she'd been fed up with it and thought she stood a better chance out there. He didn't know, and he felt vaguely like he should. But he'd tried, hadn't he? Maybe he shouldn't have said what he'd said (or typed what he'd typed; whatever) but it was done now. He thought he'd have to drop a note to Jaime later, let her know so she could handle informing Mike, or ... whoever else.
Not completely sure what to do, not sure what Dahlia wanted, or needed, he gazed at her through the dimness of the unlit cabin. He never did bother to keep lights on at night when he was gaming; the computer light was enough. It was also the only light at the moment. "You ... want to take a shower or anything? You can crash here if you want. Or if you don't want to be alone." He could warm up the bedroom while she showered and she could have the bed. He could find her some warmer things of his to wear so she didn't have to stay in her wet clothes. "Unless you ran all this way just to pass on the message," he added with a faint, humorless smile. "Because you could've just ... popped a note in the network or called me."
