Of the Storm

Summary: Rain, sharks, and noms
Status: Closed
Even as a small child, April had never been afraid of storms. She was the sort who'd sit with her face pressed to the window, watching for flashes of lightning through the streaks of rain on the glass. This wasn't much different, though she'd tired of staring through the glass and had come instead outside. The rain was pelting her hair and skin and wings, and she laughed quietly. Flaring her wings out, stretching them as far as they'd go, April let the storm wash over her. She laughed again, breathlessly, before she folded her wings against her back. She could feel the water still pelting her body, and she turned her eyes to the water. There were no bridges by her cabin because they hadn't been able to find trees long enough to bridge the gaps. Which was all right, really. It was what it was; the unfortunate result of the location of the terrain. It wasn't too much trouble to swim to the island that did have one though, and that was her plan just then. But first, there were precautions to take. Rolling her shoulders, shaking out her wings, April hooked her thumbs together before she aimed her palms at the water. She sprayed streams of flame at the waves to heat the water and hopefully scare off anything in the vicinity. She did see something large and grey flash by, and she hoped that was all there was. Still, she kept it up before she eased carefully into the water in a shuffle, wading until she had to swim. It was awkward with her wings, but she was learning how to hold them up and in a way that didn't impact her stroke, but it was exhausting. Once she reached the island with the bridge, incident free, she made her way carefully across to the Keep. Shaking out her wings as well as she could, April ducked inside. It was chilly, and of course she was soaked. Moving to the laundry room, she found one of the pool towels and dried off with that before wrapping it around herself. She was still dripping a little, but she couldn't do much about that. Exhaling, she made her way to the kitchen. She figured Eli was on his own for food today because there was no way she was swimming back with something today. He'd be over sooner or later, she was sure, and with that in mind she started to rifle through the fridges and cabinets to decide on what she wanted to make today. |
