Summary: Jake explores and attempts to legitimately scout out plans
Status: Narrative
He'd started on Monday with no real intent other than simply getting the lay of the new land. Tuesday had been spent doing something similar. Now, with the water clearly rising -- it was up past his knees, now -- he thought it was time to seriously consider bridges as an option. And a closer cabin. He thought he might hit up Mike and Jaime and borrow theirs. He knew for sure they had a spare room, and if that was already spoken for, they still had a couch. Plus, they had a decent sized island outside their cabin. Maybe it was the producers' concession to Jaime's fear of water. They didn't have as much water to cover as some people did. While he'd proven on Monday he could build bridges just fine, and while he'd proven weeks ago he could maintain a ladder, he wondered if he could maintain bridges -- and if so, how many? More than that, he wondered how many people were willing to shell out extra rooms and couches so everyone could be in the bridge area. He'd already confirmed himself what April had seen -- there were sharks in the water. Little ones right now, but they looked agitated. For the time being, Jake was standing on the larger island between the cabins and the Keep. It curved along the 6-7-8 cabin area, though the shortest points were in front of 7. Rather, the shortest stretches of water were there. If he was going to do bridges, he'd do one there. He could link from the six and eight cabins all right, and he wondered if there was something similar on the other side. That was already four bridges though, and he wasn't sure how well they'd survive if it kept getting warmer. It was getting warmer. The week had started out almost tolerable; now it was reminding him of the swamp. He wanted to go hide inside, to sleep in the freezer. He'd go take a break there, he reasoned, and then he'd see if Mike and Jaime were interested in company. First though, he had to finish his investigations with the eyes of a man who could build bridges out of ice. Stirring up the sand before he stepped into the water (he'd opted for keeping his shoes on; it simply seemed safer), Jake shuffled his way around the area between the cabins and the Keep, studying the islands. He pulled himself out of the water a few times to survey the area, to gauge distances. The 3-4-5 area had a similar-ish island, though the distances were longer. Eight bridges. Could he do that? If he built them big first and just touched them up every day? The water wasn't a problem. It was the heat, if anything, that was going to beat him down. The heat, and the sheer amount of exertion of his power. Maybe they could all just camp in the Keep though; they'd done it before. Barring that, maybe he could convince the people in bridge-friendly areas that sharing their couches for the rest of the week was the way to go. Maybe it wouldn't even come to that, but Jake had his doubts on that front. As the fake sky had its fake sunset, Jake headed back toward the Keep. A little while in the freezer, and then a message to Mike and then ... he'd see what the rest of the night brought him. |
