She certainly wouldn't do anything to damage their friendship, she adored Carlos a great deal, but she was also the type of woman to not play games or beat around the bush. If he wasn't interested, fine. She couldn't make him be, and after that they could just be friends. But it was worth a try.
And apparently dropping hints wasn't getting her anywhere.
