"I'm sorry. We could have gone somewhere else, you know. Not that there are that many places to go here."
His expression sobered as Mag answered his question. He nodded slowly and took another sip from his glass.
"It is," he agreed. "It's the sort of thing that leaves a hole that never quite gets filled. Not really."
He had loved Molly. They hadn't exactly gotten around to the point where she'd loved him back as far as Carlos knew, but they might have gotten there eventually since she'd finally stopped pining after Dresden and noticed his existence.
There was a sadness and loss etched into his features, though he did his best to cover that with another drink of the moonshine.
