She had told him a little bit about her world, but Carlos was still surprised to hear someone-anyone-describe themselves as fortunate to end up here. He gave her a sympathetic grimace.
"It would have to be bad if this is the better alternative," he said.
"Molly just... she just disappeared one day. I suppose it's not too much of a stretch to think that the tears in reality work both ways. But with Molly..." he paused, trying to think of a way to explain Molly. "It's possible she just snapped and holed up somewhere on her own. She's been through a lot and it was hard for her to be around people sometimes."
They reached the bar then and Carlos hurried to open the door for Mag. Once they were situated inside, he shifted the subject back to something else she'd mentioned.
