There was a little bit of surprise in Carlos's features at her eagerness to go with him. He broke into a grin, looking a little more like someone who wasn't carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
"Well, I'll try to be worth that endorsement of my company."
He led her out of the deli and toward one of the local watering holes.
"Before I got here, I didn't really have much of a social life," he confided in her. "Here, there was Molly, and then there wasn't."
He'd mentioned the girlfriend that he lost with their first meeting, so he didn't think that it would be too bad to bring it up to her. He didn't know if she considered this a date but he thought it was important to be open.
"I guess you just never realize how little time you have until it's run out," he said, his expression a little wistful but also a little bit hopeful. He had gotten a second chance and he intended to do what he could with it.
