The collie gave a soft yap and a whimper that was something close to confusion. His tail swiped at the snow as he sat at the strange woman's feet. He sniffed at the air again, nostrils flaring with it.
He lifted to all fours and came a few steps closer until he was just within reach. It was definitely a different smell. Another whimper of confusion, but he didn't seem afraid. Then again, it was hard to be afraid sometimes when he could be almost anything. His tail wagged again to show that he wasn't a bad dog. Well, not often anyway. Certainly not lately.
