a time to grieve [Evey]
During the attack, Peter had been rounding the natives who couldn't defend themselves together, shielding them with his power as he tried to keep track of everything. Things had happened so suddenly, there was no way he could have stopped the first set of trucks. They vanished into the same opening that the snow dinosaurs had come from, and were gone the moment they passed through the boundary.
Once things had begun to calm, and more medics than he were coming in to assist the wounded, Peter had time to inquire about those who were lost. His heart sank lower with each name, but one in particular had him raising his defenses, closing off any connection to Evey.
Aidan.
He had to tell her. But how?
Peter walked in a half-aware daze, pushing himself to Evey by intuition only. He always knew where she was, with their connection, the same way he always knew where Leeloo was. He found her soon enough. Without a word, he strode towards her, wrapped his arms around her shoulders, and held on. Slowly, he lifted the hard shields he had brought down, grief and compassion and support sliding from him, into her.
I'm so sorry, Evey.
With the words came a depth of emotion, genuine sorrow, and the memory of those vehicles what were swallowed. And the name attached.
