Summary: Phineas Nigellus Black gives his wife, Ursula, a very special gift for their fiftieth wedding anniversary. RomancingWizard Challenge #10 Pride and Prejudice prompt#2 Phineas Nigellus Black - locket
Phineas Nigellus Black, current Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, sat in his office contemplating the locket he held in his hands. It had taken almost a year for him to find it, after many false leads and many more trying to sell him a replica of the Slytherin locket. It was pure luck he found it before his and Ursulas’ fiftieth wedding anniversary. He had almost given up hope of ever finding it when he received word from one of his contacts that it was in the hands of a merchant down Knockturn Alley. He finally acquired it after much haggling with the merchant who had possession of it. He, of course, had made no inquiries as to where the merchant acquired it.
The locket was engraved with an intricate S and runes around the edge. The original owner was none other than Salazar Slytherin. Rumour was that he had it made for his bride as a wedding gift.
He promised to her fifty years ago that she would have only the best of everything. He has, kept that promise, as far as he knew.
Merlin, he thought to him self, has it really been fifty years? It only felt like yesterday that he and his lovely bride were wed.
He thought it would make a wonderful anniversary gift for his lovely Ursula. She was the perfect pureblood wife and he was deeply in love with her even after all these years. It would look lovely adorning her long neck. He placed it back in the box and with a wave of his wand, it was gift-wrapped.
That evening he found her in the entry hall giving the house-elf’s last minute orders before their guest were due to arrive. She looked lovely in her new dress robes. He could only imagine how many Galleons came out of his Gringotts vault for them but Ursula was worth the cost.
“Ursula, my dear come with me to my study, I have something to show you.”
Offering her his arm, he led her to his study and sat next to her on the settee.
“What is it, Phineas?”
“Happy Anniversary, Ursula,” he said as he handed her the gift and placing a kiss upon her cheek.
He watched his beautiful bride unwrap the gift and open the box, lifting the locket carefully examining it. “Phineas, it is beautiful, but why is there an S engraved on it?”
“This locket, my dear, is quite old. Salazar Slytherin was the original owner, it is said he had it made especially for his bride. The runes are for protection, it has also been charmed to alert you if you are in any danger.”
Taking the locket from her hand, he proceeded to place it around her neck, catching the clasp and allowing the chain to fall gently upon her graceful neck.
“It is beautiful, Phineas. Thank you.”
“I made a promise to you fifty years ago, my love, only the BEST for you.”
