Yes it is a virus and yes it can be cured. I have notes on it...

Unfortunately, by the time they start to decay (the virus turns on the cells and literally devours them it causes the breakdown of human tissue) you really have no option but to kill them. There's no coming back from that. Their brain ceases functioning leaving only the most basic motor neurons in tact. They're only capable of eating and infecting. Even after that you have to burn or decapitate the bodies
