Shifting a tightened jaw she shrugged, her eyes remained adverted from the other older woman. “They suck and they weren’t really my friends. That’s why.” Dark orbs moved from the carpet to a section of wall and locked there. Feeling Emma’s hand tighten on her shoulder it took a moment for Kel to physically respond. Sighing heavily eyes slowly drifted back to Emma with a slight question in them. Remaining silent she let Emma speak, looking away from the Empath about half way through her words. “They don’t know the kind of things I do Emma. The things I’ve done, the things I want to do and I’m sure if they did, they’d react a lot different then they do now. Same for some of the things you want. Some of the things you want to do. Bet if they knew about our first meeting more then one of them would be a little more the uneasy.” The baby dark slayer shook her head as a barrel of anger, disgust at others and hurt claimed her heart.
“Daddy always taught me not to trust anyone because they always let you down.” Her jaw shifted again though the muscles remained tense. “Mom let him down. Laura let him down…” A painful memory flashed across her mind at the last time the tough girl saw her little sister. “I did too. People will hurt you if they get the chance. They’re waiting for it.” Something inside the slayer softened visibly across her features at the processessing of Emma’s admittance of imperfection. “No… Emma… just….” She sighed shaking her head for a moment. “You’ll always have my forgiveness.” Looking away she swallowed, looking almost as though she was expecting to somehow be stung for the words that had just tumbled from her lips.
