They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I say that if you can't you're not trying hard enough.

In other words, I taught one of the dogs to fetch me a beer in exchange for bits of cheese as I restore an old Silver Arrow that some git left languishing out in the middle of an orchard for decades.

How do you even restore something like that?

Lots of time and patience. Also, sourcing spare parts.

That sounds rather incredible though.

How did it manage to do that?

The dog or the broom?

El perro. The dog. It does not have opposable thumbs.

Literal decades. It's a miracle the beauty survived.

I have been able to make out most of it. Enough to identify it any how.

I cannot decide if the dog must be very smart, or very keen on cheese.

Is the restoration going well?

It is... coming along, as it were. The broom might be ready by the fall. Or I'll have to wait until next year to take it out.

No, I can imagine. Even the charms on it can't have lasted well, never mind the physical state of the actual broom.

The Silver Arrow was a hand crafted broom and the forerunner of our modern racing brooms.
