My grandmother keeps sending me books on embroidery as if this is the middle ages and that's all a woman is good for. I've decided to return the favor by sending her unlabeled chocolate-covered insects. Petty might be my new middle name.

If my grandmother had magic, she would have no problems using a particular curse to make me do all the things she approved of. If all I have to do is suffer through her sending me shitty 'gifts', I'll do it.

Goodness.

Could you obliviate her?

Possibly but I think my father and brothers would notice. Shame, really.

I don't condone it, but you could just get them all and move somewhere far, far away.

The thought has occurred to me but... I couldn't do that to Hugh. I practically raised him.

There was a time before the war was over when I was faced with possibly having to obliviate my family. I was lucky enough to be on the run with work, I was a low priority target, but I always feared that it would come down to the worst possible scenario.

My older brothers are fighters. They got themselves into the thick of it. Left me at home to take care of grandmother and father because I was "the cleverest" which I supposed meant "please think of an alternative to obliviating our family." I think it was mostly to keep me from storming the castle to get Hugh out. He was still attending.

That sounds intense. Really, and I can't imagine what that was like for you. My family is relatively normal, all things considered.
