SCOTS SEEKER SEEKS MORE THAN THE SNITCH?
By Apollo Heavensbee, Roving Reporter (Gossip Section)
Is Scotland's Seeker Lennox Campbell getting more out of the team's Aussie sojourn than a tan and hopes of a trophy? The 25 year old has been getting everything right so far this season - at least, in Quidditch terms. Arguably the Falcons' saving grace so far in 98-99, with an excellent catch record and one of the few squad members to have had a controversy free career, Campbell was widely considered to be justified in being picked for a second World Cup squad in a row.
Yet, unlike many other young men in his position - and let's face it, Seekers are hardly usually known for being the shy and retiring types - Campbell has never been linked with a single one of the many Quidditch groupies. The so-called "broom-bunnies" have been flinging themselves at the cute blond star practically since he signed his first professional contract with the Magpies in 1991, yet he has never been seen to indulge. "It's practically abnormal", pouts Falcons' fan Nicole Hartigan. "Me and my friend Ashlee have been going to matches for years, and you'd think we didn't exist!" ("That's right. And believe me, we've been trying. Every girl wants a Seeker!" interjects Ashlee.)
However, following on from Scotland's victory against Poland - in which Campbell scored the winning points with an unusually daring Snitch catch - it seems the tide may be turning for the famously reserved and retiring former Hufflepuff. The Daily Prophet can exclusively reveal that at the Quidditch World Cup's opening ceremony ball on Tuesday, he was seen chatting intently with a pretty, curly haired blonde,
who is believed to be the last person the shy singleton was seen with before leaving, citing 'getting an early night before training' as an excuse.
"They looked pretty cosy together", sighs local girl Annaleigh Summersbrook. "He barely looked at anyone else all night, and when people came up for autographs or pictures, he did it, but looked all awkward and turned back to her as soon as he could, looking at his feet!"
"It was so weird. I mean, I thought he was gay!" adds fellow Aussie Gretel Myers. "It's about time he started looking at girls who aren't team-mates. She didn't look like the burly, muscly sort, did she?"
"No, she didn't" agrees Summersbrook. "She was all dainty and quite pretty, if you like the whole blonde-haired, big-boobed bimbo sort of thing. Perhaps that was what he needed to coax him out of his shell - stroking his ego a bit."
"I'd stroke his ego anytime!" giggles Myers. "Lennox, if you read this - owl me!"
Unfortunately for Ms Myers, however, chances
are he won't be taking up that offer. Little is known about Campbell's romantic history before hitting the big time - he has also played for both the Bats and the Arrows before joining the Falcons in 1996 - but it is believed his encounters have been few and far between since breaking up with his Hogwarts girlfriend following graduation in 1991. Perhaps the mystery blonde will help the Mull-born country boy to come out (pun unintended, Gretel!) of his shell? Might Lennox Campbell have finally found The One? It would certainly be a consolation for him if Scotland fail to capitalise on their promising start at this year's Championships...
