A little rumor Sean had heard was tucked away in the back of his mind. Well, more like the front of his mind. While he'd been on the lightest stages of sleep, he'd overheard some healers talking about Sean's fiance.
Sean didn't have a fiance. And he'd only had one visitor, besides his mum.
He should have guessed that it would have made a convenient excuse for Bethany to get in. He'd known that he was in a ward that only allowed family visitors, but it hadn't occurred to him when he'd opened his eyes to see the beautiful Bethany Dunstan smiling down at him. He'd only been able to think, at the time, that he must be dreaming.
Just hearing her talk had made his heart swell. He'd wanted to hold her hand, to brush her hair away from her eyes, but he'd been injured and forced to feel helpless laying down. Even though her heart seemed in a troubled place, Sean did h is best to savor the sound of her voice. So sweat, so beautiful... it was like listening to angels sing. He didn't remember falling asleep, but when he woke the next morning, he'd almost convinced himself that her visit had been a dream.
Until he'd heard the nurse's talking, that was.
Now the thought ebbed on his mind as he strolled into Donny's Diner, hands stuffed in his pockets. It felt good to walk about without a neck brace on for once. He smiled when he caught her sliding into the booth, clearly already familiar with the seating as she wasn't being shown to the booth by a waitress. He felt a smile ease over his face, and he slipped into the booth across from her.
"You look lovely," his eyes sparkled as he beamed at her. "As always."
