Jumping out of his chair when they were dismissed, Henry gathered his things quickly, and hurried to meet Rosie. Of course, he was held up by trying to carry girls' books to various locations and holding doors, but checking his watch he seemed to be doing pretty good. Sprinting the last couple staircases, Henry leaned against the stone wall outside the door, attempting to catch his breath. He thanked God that her class hadn't been dismissed yet; he didn't want her to know he had run to come to spend time with her before lunch.
Suddenly, before the sound of clamoring feet could register, Henry was nearly flattened by the swinging door. A bit disgruntled, he grabbed it and stood beside it, watching in horror as all the boys exited first and allowed the gaggles of girls walk through it on their own. Deciding then that it was his duty to do what they had so obviously failed to, he held the door open for them, smiling as they walked. "Ladies," he said happily, watching them as they went with a smile. It wasn't so much that Henry really looked at them, he had eyes only for Rosie at that point, but he was proud he had been such a gentlemen and watched them leave as if they meant his duty was done.
As more girls (and a few guys) passed, Henry greeted the ones he knew, giving the boys a pat on the back and nudging some of the girls playfully. "Hey love," he said happily to one who tended to flirt with him. "Hey yourself," she said coyly, breaking off from her pack to talk to him. "Oh get off it," he said merrily, not meaning to flirt but still guilty. He gave her a one-armed hug and set her free, finally turning into see the girl he had come for.
"Rosie," he greeted happily, having every intention of sweeping her into a big hug and kiss. He nearly swung the door shut on them but realized there were a few more kids hanging around the classroom. Paying closer attention to Rosie's expression, Henry's own face became a bit crumpled as he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "What's up, love?" he asked, trying to get close to her; he had no idea she was upset with him. Fool.
