Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Characters: Fleur Weasley and Zacharias Smith
Date: 08 September 2004
Location: sandwich shop near the Wasps pitch
Status/Warning: Private
Summary: Catching lunch is usually better with company
Completion: Incomplete

Fleur hurried into the small crowded cafe and ordered her sandwich. With her notepad tucked under her arm, she waited impatiently for her food. Pre-season was always like this. Everyone started out three weeks behind schedule in whatever it was that needed to be done, and there really was no way around it.

Sandwich and water in hand, she looked and found an empty table in a corner. There were few enough chairs in the place to begin with, but today seemed worse than usual. She made it to the table just in time to see someone else arrive as well. Looking up, poised to apologize, she recognized the wizard immediately.

"Smith," she greeted pleasantly. "Oh please, take the table, I can find another." Though she wasn't sure that was true and was preparing herself to heading back to her office to eat.

“Why don’t you sit, I can always go sit and take over somewhere else. I see some..” Interesting females about “..Options that I could go after if you would rather eat here. I’m not that much of an arse, I have a gentlemen quality somewhere in there.” Or so his mother insisted he have since he was raised better than stealing a table out from under someone even if he considered it whole heartedly. There was a thing like chivalry and it wasn’t quite dead…unfortunately enough for him. Though, even he has his less than knightly qualities and moments this wasn’t one of them.

“Go on..” He said balancing his own sandwich in hand but he wasn’t really sure what to do since he had been hoping for a meal sans flirting with some stranger while he ate today. “Or I can always join you if you aren’t opposed to company. I promise I’m no trouble.” He said offering her a signature smile as he set his own things down and moved to pull out her chair. He mentally patted his own back for having another nice moment. He wasn’t a complete arse, but Zacharias unfortunately had a lot of flaws especially during the season so it was always best that he was avoided anytime he was near the field or in uniform. “Care to join me?” He asked as he indicated the chair he pulled out for her.

Fleur laughed slighty, in part out of true appreciation, in part out of awkwardness. She listened to him as he began to offer to move elsewhere. She shook her head, not interrupting him but ready to if necessary. It really made more sense for them to share a table than for either to end up sharing with a stranger.

"Yes," she agreed readily, accepting the seat he'd offered, then motioning with her hand to the other, "Please? It only makes sense. I promise I can be more pleasant than what you see on the pitch."

Smith was abrasive, but it never bothered her. She had been around too many boys to let his comments get too far. Sure, he wasn't the charmer that some of the other players were, but sometimes that was a relief too.

She refused to touch her sandwich until he'd sat down and tucked her notepad under her hip. She was obviously not getting any work done over lunch, but she refused to let it bother her.

"Good practice today. The season promises to be quite impressive. That is if you lot don't get too over-confident."
