Summary: Justin finds a surprise on Christmas Eve.
Click ... click... the loud speaker overhead made a loud noise as a muffled voice came out of it.
'Flight 196 bound for New York is now boarding at gate 59b, the flight will be departing in 15min, will all of the First Class passengers please report to gate 59a for quick boarding.'
"Mom ....mom...mom... I have to go ... mom they just announced my flight.. mom yes ... yes I know yes I know I promised that this year I would try and make it for Christmas... yes I know I have promised and missed the last 2 years but tell you what I will call you as soon as I get home... I really have to go now... yes I love you too... bye yes I promise I will call when I get home!"
Justin clicked his phone shut thinking better about it he shut it off- the last thing he need today was for it to start ringing during the flight. He knew he had promised that this year he would go home but a chance for a semi-solo show doesn't come around often enough to pass up. His mother would just have to understand. That's why he was away from Bri... no he would not go there! That chapter of his life was closed- Brian had made sure of that with his last visit -but he was too excited and tired to go over that once again.
Getting in line for first class, Justin still couldn't believe it when Mr. Prescott had called to offer him the spot in their March show case, and that he would be traveling first class all the way! First class plane ticket, Penthouse Suite- the only thing that had been missing was a tall auburn haired man to share his success with but that was a L.A. dream, just like Rage had been at one point. Now he was on his way back home to New York, to follow his dreams of fame and fortune and to set the art world on fire with his paintings.
As Justin stepped into the boarding gate he was quickly scanned through. The flight attendant led him to his window seat.
"Is there anything I may get for you Mr. Taylor?" she asked, giving him a bright smile.
"Yes, could I get a glass of orange juice?"
" Yes sir, I will get that for you shortly."
Justin took his seat looking at the window he wondered what Brian was doing this holiday -his mother had let it slip that Brian was out of town. He had to meet with a new client, so she had told him, but he knew that Brian was making changes in his life. The kind you make when you're getting ready to make a commitment to someone that was going to share your life. There was no point bringing up the past- he had lost his chance. Brian had always said 'No Apologies No Regrets'. Taking a deep breath he leaned back hoping he could at least sleep through the flight. He didn't sleep much anymore maybe he never would -not without his comfort and joy next to him.

Justin was finally heading home. It had been a hard week, the only good part of it was, he only needed one more painting for the March show. He had just finished a series of five so it was perfect timing. The last show he had done he had sold all six of his paintings so right now cash for once, was not an issue.
Making a brief stop at his favorite deli for his usual then home to a hot shower and his bed. He had nothing pending tomorrow so he could sleep the whole Christmas day away -at least he would try to. No doubt he would end up working, making sure to get started on the last painting he would need for the March show.
Justin never remembered the street being so quiet. He thought maybe everyone was getting ready for Christmas Eve. It had been the same way at Thanksgiving, another time when he was not able to make it home, this time for more personal reasons. He could not go back and spend time with everyone and then leave again. He had finally gotten used to being away for almost two years on his own, but if he spent time with Brian he would not be able to leave him. But he was more sure that Brian would find some way of kicking him off Mt. Kinney- telling him that he had to be the best homosexual he could be. Not ready or willing again to have his life and heart torn out, he hid at his apartment.
Unlocking the front door he made his way inside and once again the elevator had an out of order sign, so he took the three flights up to his semi-two bedroom flat. As he unlocked all three bolts and walked in, he find that something was not just not right.
"No ... No.... No ... No ... No!"
"Shit.. Shit ... Shit !" Fuck! All of his stuff was gone- well not all of it but the most important ones were his pantings, TV, stereo. Walking in deeper, he discovered that all his new brushes and un-used canvasses were also missing. Moving to the bedroom, his clothes, pictures off his dresser, his closet was empty! His linen was still here, so were the towels. Moving into the kitchen, he found everything was still there, so these robbers only wanted his art supplies and his clothes. What the fuck was going on? "Shit!"
Then he spotted the one item that was way out of place in his home- a crystal vase with one red rose. A envelope was lying beside it addressed to Mr. Justin M Taylor. With shaking hands he opened the envelope. Taking out the card, he found the following message that left him even more confused that he already felt.
The presence of one Mr. Justin M Taylor Is requested.
There is a car at the entrance waiting for you.
If you care to see your belongings please come at once.
Justin could not believe what he was reading. It seemed as if his personal belonging were being held for ransom unless he was to follow the directions enclosed. What choice did he have? He needs to get this pantings back, if nothing else.
Making his way down to the front door, he found a stretch limo waiting. As soon as the driver saw him he opened the car door motioning for him to enter. He thought of asking what was going on, but he was sure that driver had been instructed not to answer any questions.
Entering the limo, Justin found a try of Hors D'oerves and a bottle of Champaigne awaiting him.
Damn, these were the most considerate robbers ever! The limo began to pull out into the street now, making it's way to his unknown destination.
************************************************
The limo had pulled into the driveway of a very expensive high rise apartment. The door was opened by whom he presumed was the doorman. As he stepped out he was greeted by the man.
"Good evening Mr. Taylor, I hope you flight was good?" The man had asked as if he had lived here forever and they were exchanging small talk like always...
Justin had no idea how to answer, so he let his WASP country club manners take over for him.
"It was quite nice, thank you for asking."
"No problem Mr. Taylor, I'm glad to hear that at this time of the season you did not run into any delays. Oh Mr. Taylor, here is the key to the penthouse apartment. Just make sure to put in the key and turn it to the right, it will take you straight there."
Justin took the key, not sure what he should do now. Was this all a big hoax or was all of this on the up and up?
What choice did he have- he needed to find out what had happened to his paintings?"
Wishing a Merry Christmas to the man...he hadn't even gotten the man's name, he made his way to the elevators. As the bright silver doors opened, he stepped in and found the slot for the key. Taking a deep breath ,know that all this mystery, so he hoped would soon beat an end, he turned the key to the right as instructed.
Slowly the elevator made it's way up the to the top floor. Justin took another deep breath as the doors began to open, only to reveal a lobby. Stepping out he saw big double doors so he walked towards them, not sure if he should knock or ring the bell, or maybe just say 'fuck it' and turn around, leaving his hard work behind- he could always do new ones!
Finally, he grabbed the door knob. Turning it he realised it was unlocked, so he pushed it open. Taking a tentative step inside, he came into what must be the main entrance. Looking to the right, he saw the living room. There, standing by some amazing full length glass windows, was the biggest Christmas tree he had seen, decorated in white lights, which filled the room with a calm glow. At the end was a fireplace burning softly in the background, so inviting he could picture days of curling up next to the fire just enjoying the view over the city. Justin was brought out of his brief daydream when he heard a voice behind him.
"Well Sunshine, I see that you finally made it home!"
Turning he saw the man that had been in all of his waking and sleeping dreams- the man that he thought he would never see again until maybe he was old and gray- the man that would hold his heart and soul until the day he took his last breath on this earth.
Yet here he was standing before him, beautiful as ever -time did not dare make a mark on this man- he would always be young and beautiful.
"Brian!" The name escaped his lips like a whisper in the wind-at that moment words were the last thing on his mind. He wanted to be held by this man, to be kissed, to wrap himself around him so tightly, that it would take surgery to pry him away! Why was Brian here and what did all of this mean?
"Brian, what are you doing here, what's going on?" Finally Justin was able to find his voice. Once more looking at the man before him, he was sure that time had stood still- it was only yesterday that he had stood at the loft getting ready to leave once more- but this time he was not sure for long it would be. He was going to make a name for himself in the Art world after all. Brian had said it was only time but it had been over two years and here he was standing so close yet some how he felt miles away.
Taking a step closer, Brian came to stand in front of Justin placing both his hands on his face, tenderly caressing the porcelain skin with the pads of his thumbs and looking into the eyes of blue that he had missed for so long.
"Brian, what are you doing here, when did you get here, what is going on, do you live here, have you been in the city long, are you here on business, how long will you be here...wait, where the hell are my paintings?"
Justin seemed to let the surprise he was feeling turn more into frustration, as the man that he had been dreaming about for the last two years just stood staring at him with a smile on his face. Brian was smiling at him like a child that just got the most wonderful present in the world.
"Well Brian, don't just stand there, are you going to say something, anything?" Justin was becoming more exasperated with the silence that filled the wonderful room they were standing in.
Brian taking a deep breath finally spoke. " OK Sunshine, which question would you like me to begin with?"
Justin let a little smile slip from his lips.
"All of them..." he said "...but there is one thing that has me more confused than any of my other questions at this moment." Brian raised his eyebrow and motioned for Justin to continue
"What do you mean welcome home?"
Brian smiled. " I was wondering if that statement had escaped your attention, but as I can see you are still the smart one in this relationship."
"Relationship." Justin let the word slip out- he couldn't believe that Brian was using a word that always seemed to bring great fear to him- and now it was just rolling off his tongue and out of his lips with such ease.
"Yes Sunshine, I did say relationship. I know that I have been an ass for the last two years. That I once again let my fears that I was not good enough for you take over. That there is so much you offer me and what do you get in return? A man that comes with so much baggage you..." Brian words were cut off when Justin pulled him down and captured him in a long passionate kiss that was long overdue for them both.
Brian hesitated for only a moment, crushing the blond into his body, he let all the emotion and love that he had been trying to bury for the last two years, knowing that nothing in his life meant anything if he didn't have Justin to share it with.
Breaking the kiss Brian knew he had to continue, otherwise he would not be able to finish what he had come here to say. If he was truly going to make this work, he needed, no they both needed a fresh start. He owed that to his Sonny Boy, this and so much more, but this was a beginning-they would have many more years together to make up the rest.
"Justin, wait we have to talk first". Brian held the blond at arms length.
Justin looked like a pail of cold water had just been poured over him. Brian Kinney wanted to actually have a conversation, but he also wanted to be the one to initiate the conversation!
This had to be a dream ,that was it, he was still flying somewhere over miles of land, this was a dream he would wake up at any moment! Closing his eyes, he waited for the dream to be over.
"It's OK Sunshine, you can open your eyes, you're not dreaming!"
Justin opened his eyes to indeed find Brian standing in front of him still in the beautiful penthouse apartment. Brian once again smiled at the blond.
"Don't look at me like that Sunshine, you would be surprised at some of the changes that I have gone through."
At that moment a little of the hurt and anger that Justin had felt over the last two years came to the surface. Stepping away from Brian, he turned stopping in front of one of the big bay windows over looking the city with all the lights shinning like torches. His voice came out as a small whisper. "How would I know?"
Brian could feel the hurt and the anger that those simple words held, but Justin was right he had once more pushed him away thinking again it was for his own good.
That's what Brian had tried to tell himself, but he knew that he could no longer continue with that excuse not when Justin had taught him so much over the past five years. He had shown him how to love, how not to be afraid to allow the people around him into his life and most important of all, how to love himself, to trust the love he felt for his son, his family and even his friends and employees. He had shown him it was OK to sometimes be human.
He also knew it was time that he dealt with his own inner demons- they needed to be laid to rest in order for Justin and him to have the future he wanted. He would start with a clean slate- no more shadows to overcast the sunshine that Justin brought to his life. Walking over to stand behind the man he loved, he slowly took him into his embrace waiting for the moment that he would be shrugged off, or Justin would step away. Neither of these things happened, Justin melted into his arms like he aways had.
"I'm sorry Justin ... and yes before you say anything, I am sorry and no it's not bullshit! It has never been bullshit with you- I know I pushed you away again and I know it might seem wrong, but I think we both..." Brian lets out a little laugh at which Justin turns in his arms to look at that man of his life.
"What is so funny, Mr. Kinney?"
"I do believe you were right when you said you were the most mature person I knew. I didn't even qualify in that category...but yes, I think we both needed this time away from each other, but now..." Brian stops looking into the eyes that he could get lost in forever.
"But now what, Brian?"
"Now it's our time, Justin Taylor!" Brian takes Justin's hand, as he bends to one knee.
"First let me say that I'm doing this because I love you, not because of any guilt or bombs, or being afraid of growing old all alone. I do this because you are my destiny as I am yours. Justin Taylor, will you be my friend, my lover, my partner, my husband, will you marry me? Taking out a platinum ring Brian holds it out to Justin, holding his breath awaiting for the answer that could make or destroy his life with one simple word.
Justin, no longer able to hold back leaps into Brian's arms, bringing both men crashing down to the hardwood floors. Laughing Brian asked "I take that to mean yes?"
"Yes yes yes yes yes! Brian I will marry you. Yes yes..." Justin is kissing every available surface on Brian's face, somehow finally believing that he would be able to spend the rest of his life with the only man he loved or would ever love.
Brian sat up with Justin resting on his lap. "May I?" Brian holds out the hand holding the ring a soft blush come over Justin as he holds out his hand. Brian placing the ring on the ring finger gives it a gentle kiss.
"Brian it's beautiful, but ...but I don't have one for you."
" Don't worry , we'll take care of that later."
"Well I know something I could take care of right now." Justin wiggles his hips on Brian lap, feeling the hard cock that is under his ass.
"I'm sure you can Sunshine, but right now we only have about an hour before our home is filled with family... so up up up!" Justin, not wanting to get up groaned, then began to stand, pulling Brian up with him.
"So who is coming?"
"Well let's see... Debbie and Carl, Ben Michael and Hunter, then we have Ted and Blake and also Emmett and whoever is the flavor of the month. Then of course we have my dear mother in law with Tucker and Molly. The munchers will be in tomorrow with Gus and J.R.
"Damn! when you said the whole family, you meant it!" "Of course, Sunshine, it's Christmas Eve and of course we have to celebrate our engagement!"
Oh, an engagement party! So Mr. Kinney you were quite sure of yourself?"
Taking Justin in his arms looking into the blue eyes he had fallen in love with so long ago, he spoke the words he had said once before.
