Melanie set her bags down and joined Lindsay at the table. Bracing herself for the answer, she asked, “What?”
Smiling softly, Lindsay reached for her hand. “You.”
Melanie started to protest, but Lindsay shushed her.
“It’s not your fault, and I know it will be worth it. But right now between the hours you’re working and the classes you have to take, it kinda sucks.”
Thinking of all the days like to today when she never saw the kids awake, Melanie agreed. Resting her head on Lindsay’s shoulder, she sighed. “I know.”
