Challenge #164: Hot Title: Heat Wave 1-3 Warnings/Author's Notes: My first attempt at Queer as Folk fanfiction. The last one was probably subconsciously inspired by happier_bunny's heatwave bunny. A billion thank you's to Xie for reading these for me and telling me that they were good. And the condom goes to: Two to Ben and Michael, one to Debbie and Carl.
I. The heat wave had lasted for three days. On the fourth, Michael gave up all hope of coherent thought. Instead, he put on a Brett Keller movie and started melting into the couch cushions. His brain slowly entered a heat and explosions induced stupor that was only broken when the movie ended. When it did, he stayed sitting for a moment, wondering if his body would still move, then stood and put another movie in. Before watching it, though, he headed into the kitchen and returned with a tub of ice cream.
Meanwhile, Ben forced himself to go out jogging.
II. The heat wave had lasted for three days. On the fourth, Lindsay declared that she was sick of sitting inside and fanning herself. Ignoring their lack of sunscreen, she put on her bikini and lay on a towel in their backyard, trying to get a tan that wouldn't turn her orange. Mel stood in the doorway, Gus on her hip. "Honey," she called. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"
Lindsay, already falling asleep in the sun, didn't reply.
Mel sighed and went for her third cold shower that day, wondering how to cope with a sore, sunburned Lindsay.
III. The heat wave had lasted for three days. On the fourth, Brian and Justin were doing exactly what they had been for the last three. There was no swimming, tanning, or movie watching for them. Instead, they could be found on the too-warm bed or on the slightly cooler floor, rolling on top of one another, pinning the other's hands above his head, licking their way up each other's salty-tasting bodies. There was an empty carton of low-fat vanilla ice cream on the counter that they had finished yesterday. Now it was just them, panting, hot, and sticky with sweat.
