There was no easy way to deliver news like this, no real way to soften the blow. So Brian just held on and waited for the news to sink in. Brian knew there were things he should be saying, but sympathetic platitudes were worthless, and Brian couldn’t bring himself to lie to Justin, even now. Still, he cursed his inability to think of something comforting to say.

Justin pulled back and offered him a weak smile. “Thanks.”

“For what?” Brian asked, incredulous.

“For not saying everything is going to be okay or some other bullshit. For just letting me feel.”
