Absolutely. In fact, it was the only doubt I had as far as in IC characterization was concerned, because I know that also canon!Brian has always been protective, etc., but here we had a level of openness and emotional involvement that we saw only later in QaF. And therefore it had to be explained, even in an AU context.
As soon as it clicked, I thought back to the "hints" you'd given, especially the Michael-Brian conversation, which suddenly made much more sense. I like that the hints are very subtle and then become gradually (or suddenly, in my case!) more transparent.
This format is suiting your style very well, for some reason.
