It started with the nightmares that started after the bombing. Ben started meditating before he went to bed to keep them at bay.
Breathe in.
Those pained screams of the injured.
Breathe out.
That spooky, eerie quiet after the blast faded.
Breathe in.
Walking down the windy roads with Michael weeks later.
Breathe out.
Raking leaves in the front yard with Hunter.
He opens his eyes, noting that it’s well past midnight and crawls into bed, wrapping Michael’s thin frame in his arms. Inhaling deeply he realizes this is a perfection far better than that achieved by his nightly meditation.
