Who: Logan, with guest appearances from the Frost clan
From: UTR
Prompt: One: Family
By: Mandy
Logan had a few minutes of quiet after Emma left for work and before the kids started making their way out of their rooms. He sat at the table, mug of coffee in front of him, ignoring the bustling for just a few more minutes.
Before the kids took over the kitchen, Logan headed back up to his room to get dressed. They were all old enough to handle getting ready, but he could hear if they called for him from most of the rooms in the house. He wasn't really a morning person, and he found it was best if everyone just gave each other their space. Up to a point, at least.
He was driving the kids to school today, and he had to get the baby ready before they could go. He walked into the hallway on the way to Esme's room and spotted James' room--door still closed. Logan shook his head, rolling his eyes in exasperation. Kids.
Leaving Esme in bed for now, he walked down and banged on James' door with a fist.
"Not going to school," was the answer from inside. "I'm sick."
"Like hell you are," growled Logan. James had the same healing factor Logan did. It was idiotic for him to even try pulling that bullshit. "Thirty seconds to get out here before I tear the door down."
James emerged, pulling a t-shirt on and pouting, but otherwise fine.
Logan turned away, grumbling a little as he walked back to Esme's room. Before he reached the doorway, he could hear Rose inside, talking to Esme. He smiled, pushing open the door. "Hey, sweetheart," he said softly, walking up to her and putting a hand on her back.
Rose smiled back at him. "Morning, Daddy," she said quietly before returning to her task of getting Esme dressed. She must have gotten up early to be ready to go and have time to help with Esme.
"Thanks, baby," he said, kissing the top of his daughter's head. She was a good kid. He almost ruffled her hair, but stopped short, knowing that she had already fixed it for the day. "I'll see you two downstairs."
He closed the door gently, not wanting to upset the baby, and headed back to the kitchen. Darius was sitting at the table alone, drinking coffee. Logan wasn't quite sure why that kid made him feel uncomfortable. He was the most normal of all of them, when you got down to it. But somehow he always got this 'children of the corn' type feeling, not unlike he'd felt when the Cuckoos had first started living there. He wasn't quite sure where he stood with the kid. Did Darius resent him for not being Scott? Logan wasn't about to ask, and didn't even want to let on that it was a concern. He just acknowledged the boy with a nod before glancing at his watch.
Time had gotten away from him. He gave a frustrated grunt before heading back up the main hallway. With his super senses, it was easy for him to find each of the kids. Rose had Esme and was heading down the stairs and James had snuck out the back and was having a cigarette. He banged loudly on one of the bathroom doors.
"What?" came an annoyed voice from inside. Logan just banged again. "There's, like, twenty other bathrooms!" Sophie called. Crowded bathrooms were not a problem at the Frost mansion.
"Yeah, and it doesn't matter which one of 'em you're in, you'll still be late if you don't get out here right now," Logan growled.
Sophie was surprised at how late it was. "Coming." She unlocked the bathroom door and came out quickly. Her hair wasn't completely done, but she just grabbed a headband. It would have to do.
Logan herded the teenagers out to the main room. "Car," he ordered, following them outside. Rose was already there, getting Esme in the carseat. As they all piled in, Logan couldn't help but smile. His kid was the best out of all of them. He probably shouldn't think that too loudly, though.
