Yes it does exist, yes it has been increasingly reported in other countries as well as in the United States. No, it is not considered that the parent have borderline personality disorder. More likely for a parent to have Munchausen's themselves (inducing illness in oneself) or to have narcissistic personality disorder. M.B.P. is currently listed as a form of child abuse. 6% of kids whose parents are doing this to them die and often parents do it to more than one child in a family. And yes, research studies have been conducted. And no, psychology today is not the most reliable source of information. It is more pop psychology geared for public consumption.
