Entry tags:jason murphy, kathleen shore, nicole hunter

who: Nic, Kate, & Jason
when: Monday afternoon
where: A vacant warehouse
open: To [info]stillnotkatie & [info]jmurph

Nic had met with Kathleen a time or two since their initial meeting at the coffee shop and she had to admit that she already adored the brunette. She was an incredibly sweet person with one hell of a personality, not to mention she was creative to boot. The ideas that she had come up with for her shoot with Nic had been pretty much amazing, and the one she had settled on had blown the blonde out of the water, so to speak. She would have never been able to come up with that sort of idea. Needless to say, she was incredibly excited for the project and had invited Jason to come with her the next time she met with Kathleen. They'd finally be taking photographs and she thought it might be nice to have Jason around. Not only could Kathleen ask him questions if she had any, but Nic could show her phenomenal body off in the outfits the brunette picked out for her.

So that Monday when they had agreed to meet Nic had taken off from the salon. She wanted that morning to herself so she could prep -- do her make-up, fix her hair, and all of that -- before grabbing something to eat and going to meet Kathleen at the location they had agreed on. On her way over her phone beeped to signal she had received a new text message. It was from Jason, saying that he was running a bit late at the studio, but he would be over as soon as he was finished. Smiling, Nic tossed her phone back into her purse and continued on her way, parallel parking her car on the sidewalk when she was near the warehouse.

Checking her hair, Nic got out of the car and moved to the back seat, grabbing her tote that held any make up she might need for touch ups, as well as a few random hair products and some clothes, then snagging her purse and locking the car behind her. Adjusting the bags around until she didn't feel like she'd tip over from all the weight being to one side she began her trek to the building. When she arrived and found she was the first one there, she gently laid her tote on a bench before taking a look around, her arms folded across her chest as she wandered around the vicinity.

Kate was running late and she wanted to kick herself for it. She had an early morning class right before she had agreed to meet up with Nic and it had ran a bit late. As soon as Kate got all of the information from her professor that she needed she ran to her dorm room to get her stuff for the beginning of the shoot and to borrow her room mate’s car so that she could drive to the warehouse that Kate had chosen. She was sure that there was a bus that drove by there, but Kate didn’t want to be stuck having to walk a fair distance or anything with all of her photography stuff. Luckily her room mate didn’t need her car at all that day and had no problem letting Kate drive it. Once Kate collected all of her things and quickly got chanced she shoved everything into the back seat of her friends car and hopped in, heading to the warehouse right away.

Making sure not to speed Kate tried to get to the warehouse as fast as possible. She didn’t think it was that professional to be late and felt bad that she was making Nic wait for her. Kate had grown to like Nicole a lot during their first few meetings. She was extremely nice and open to anything that Kate wanted to do and it seemed like she was going to be very easy to work with which was great. Kate was stressed out enough from school and it seemed like Nicole was going to contribute to this project going by as smoothly as possible. Kate was actually surprised that Nicole let her dress her up as a pin up doll, but very glad that she did it because it all worked towards Kate’s main theme that she wanted to protray.

Once Kate arrived at the warehouse she spotted Nicole’s car and parked close by. She got out of her friend’s car and grabbed her bags from the back seat before quickly walking towards where she saw Nicole standing around. “I am so sorry that I am late,” Kate said when she reached her. “One of my classes ran late and I still had to go and get my friend’s car.” Kate then motioned towards the red car in the parking lot that was obviously not hers. Kate still had plans to buy a car, she just had not gotten the time or chance to go check out the one that Kaycee had mentioned to her about. “You look great!” Kate then added, happy with how Nicole did her make up and hair.

Truth be told, Nic hadn't been paying much attention to the time, and had actually gotten fairly distracted by a bit of graffiti done on the far side of the warehouse. She couldn't make out the tag on it, but whomever had done it had some skill with spray paint. When the sound of a car parking echoed against her ears, the blonde made her way back to the entrance of the warehouse and was happy to see Kathleen standing there. "Oh, don't worry about it," Nic smiled, waving one hand in front of her, "I haven't been here for all the long." Even if she had been, the blonde wouldn't have made a big fuss over it or anything, she was fairly laid back when it came to activities outside of the salon. It was when she was at work that she was a bit edgy when it came to people coming in late and such.

Sneaking a peak outside when she motioned to the car outside, Nic nodded. "Friend's got a nice car," she commented as she looked back to the brunette. Nic practically beamed when Kathleen complimented her and she couldn't hide the giant grin that spread across her face. "Thank you! I'm glad you like it." She then moved to the bench that she'd sat her tote bag down on and dropped her purse onto it as well, no longer worried about someone coming by and nabbing it. "I brought some extra make-up just in case." Nic wasn't going to pull out everything she'd brought along, but figured she'd tell Kathleen just in case.

Pulling her water bottle out of her bag, she took a sip of it before turning to Kathleen. "So! Shall we get started?" Grinning, she moved to pull the few articles of clothing she brought that may have been useful out of her tote bag and folded them over her arm. "I guess we can decide what I'm wearing first, yeah?" Nic let out a small laugh, quite excited she was going to wear what she was. She'd never done pin-up modeling before, but was ready to give anything a world, that was for certain!

Kate was glad that Nicole didn’t seem annoyed or anything that she was late and returned her smile. She nodded in agreement and looked back at her friend’s car again before turning her attention to Nicole. “Yeah, I am pretty sure her parents are loaded and bought it for her last year for getting into Brown.” Kate commented. She was comfortable enough with Nicole now that she could have casual conversations like this with her, which Kate really liked. Yes, being professional was something that Kate was suppose to work on as part of this project, but she found she worked better with someone when she could just be herself. Kate then gave Nicole a nod of approval and was glad that the girl came prepared. “Good, I might want you to switch the make up around a bit later on, though that depends on how far we get today.” Kate did want to take her time with this shoot. There were a lot of outfits and back drops that she wanted to work with.

“Sounds like a good idea.” Kate said, placing all of her bags down and then opening up the one that had the clothing that Kate and brought with her. “I picked up a top and a skirt for you as well, but I am not so sure if they will fit or not. They are a couple inches too long for me so they should fit you just fine.” Kate was really bad at guessing sizes, but she was confident that if they didn’t fit she would have enough extra clothing with her that they would be fine. Kate then handed the clothes to Nicole and looked around. “This really isn’t the greatest place for changing, huh? How about you try on the black outfit first, I wouldn’t mind you posing in front of that graffiti with it on for the first few shots. I guess the best place to change is your car?”

After Kate got the clothing out of her hands she immediately went to her camera to get everything set up. She was looking forward to doing a few shots in front of the graffiti as well as in front of a few door ways and other stuff that was set up all over the place. Kate knew that they couldn’t get everything done all in one day, but it was great to see what the lighting would be like and what they could work with ahead of time.

Jason had every intention of going to Nic's photo shoot with her. Nic had told him that her photographer was new, and that they had talked about him a little bit. She told him that her photographer would appreciate some tips from someone who knew what they were doing. That made Jason feel pretty good, honestly. He had been a photographer for awhile, that was true. But for another photographer to want to ask him questions, and get tips from him? That was pretty awesome.

And then, of course, he had to be running late, and unable to meet Nic at her apartment before the shoot. He had some project he was working on in the morning, and told Nic that if he wasn't at her apartment by the time she needed to leave, then to just leave without him, and he'd come later. Jason lost track of time while he was at work, and by the time he realized it, he was already supposed to have been at the photoshoot. "Shit," he cursed softly, sending Nic a quick text to tell her he'd be there soon. Grabbing his camera equipment, he made his way out to his new car and got inside.

Driving over to the abandoned warehouse that the photoshoot was supposed to take place, Jason parked his car behind Nic's and got out, grabbing his camera bag and flinging it over his shoulder. He spotted Nic heading inside, he assumed she had just been changing out in her car. Closing his door quickly, Jason jogged over to meet her. "Hey, I'm sorry I'm late. You look fantastic," he told her, smiling. Nic had stopped in the entrance to the warehouse to look back at him, and Jason approached her, giving her a smile. "Sorry," he apologized again, leaning in to give her a kiss. "I got caught up in work and then everything just went crazy. By the time I realized I was supposed to be somewhere, I was already late," he said, following Nic inside.

Changing in the back of her car and not screwing her hair up hadn't been the easiest thing to accomplish, but Nic managed. She had changed out of her jeans and shirt into the black ensemble that Kathleen had chose for the first part of the shoot. Climbing out of her car, Nic checked her hair in the driver's side mirror and then looked around. When she was sure that no one was looking directly at her, she adjusted the pieces of clothing just slightly before heading back towards the entrance of the warehouse. Her feet were currently still in a pair of sneakers, but she had a few pairs of heels in her bag that she could easily slip into when she made it back.

Hearing someone come up behind her, Nic glanced back over her shoulder, and when she saw who it was, she turned around completely. "Thank you," she smiled, placing one hand on her hip, "my photographer picked it out. She's pretty awesome." She stated matter-of-factly with a nod. She leaned in to return his kiss, reaching out to take one of his hands in hers. "It's okay," she assured him, leaning in to place another quick kiss to his mouth. "You're here now and that's all that matters." Grinning, she spun around and moved inside, pulling Jason along behind her.

Once inside, Nic moved over to her bag and slipped out of her sneakers, letting go of Jason's hand to dig through it and find a pair of black heels to match her outfit. Finding the pair, she turned and sat down on the bench. "Kathleen!" She called, leaning over to buckle the straps on one of the shoes. Glancing up after getting the first shoe clasped, she smiled over at her new friend and gestured to her boyfriend. "This is my boyfriend Jason. Jason, this is Kathleen." she gestured between each of them as she introduced them before leaning back down to pull her other shoe on.

Once Nicole left to go change in her car Kate took that chance to take a look around the warehouse once more. She left her bags with the rest of Nic’s and started to walk around checking things out. She was pretty proud of herself for picking this place about because the more she looked at the more she realized how perfect it was going to be for her shoot with Nic. There were so many different spots that had different lighting and stuff to work with that the possibilities Kate had really were endless. She was satisfied and new now that the project was going to go by just fine. Her and Nicole worked great together and they now had an awesome place to shoot at.

Kate had her back to Nicole and was checking out the graffiti on one of the walls when she heard the girl coming back into the warehouse. Kate heard the muffle of voices and an extra pair of foot steps and could only be assumed to be Nicole’s boyfriend. She knew that he was stopping by sometime during the shoot and was actually looking forward to meeting him. She knew that he could give his advice and opinion on the spot that Kate had picked out, and she could pick his brain for any information she might need.

“Over here,” Kate called back since she was a few feet away from where Nicole originally left her. She took one last glance at the graffiti before running a hand through her hair and turning to greet Nicole and her boyfriend. “Hey Jaso-” Kate started, but couldn’t finish because she went into complete shock. There standing beside Nicole was Jason Murphy Kate’s ex boyfriend. Jason. Kate’s Jason, not Nicole’s. She nearly dropped the camera that was in her hand but Kate quickly grabbed at the strap just in time and swung the bag over her shoulder. “Holy shit,” was all that Kate could say at first.

Jason let his eyes roam over his girlfriend once more before he moved behind her into the warehouse, and he nodded. "Yeah, I'm here now. I gotta say, my co-workers weren't all that happy about me cutting out early," he laughed, then shrugged. "But oh well," he said, smiling over at Nicole.

Jason glanced around the warehouse as Nicole lead him by his hand through it and towards the photographer. Jason could only see her back at the moment, she seemed to be studying the graffiti on the wall. As Jason glanced around, he couldn't help but notice how awesome of a place this was. It had amazing lighting, and tons of awesome natural backdrops, the graffiti, the worn down look of some of the walls. And the lighting was pretty fantastic, out of all the natural positives this place held. "Wow, this place is amazing," he muttered, his hands itching for his camera.

Nicole lead him further until they were at the photographer. Nicole had called her Kathleen, and Jason was just about to introduce himself to her, when she turned around. He watched the recognition flash across her face, and he was positive it was flashing across his as well. This was not Kathleen ... this was Kate. Kate Shore. His ex-girlfriend that had taken Jason way too long to get over. He should have known that he would run into her sooner or later, movin to Providence, but how the hell was he supposed to know that she'd actually keep up with the whole photography thing? Before he could say anything, Kate made her comment, and Jason opened his mouth to talk, shutting it just as quickly. He couldn't think of a single word to say.

See? Nic didn't see any of the natural backdrops or the different types of lighting areas, or any of that. True, she did think the graffiti was absolutely stunning, but that was about the extent of what her take on the warehouse was. She thought it might look half way awesome if someone took the time to fix it up. Then again, it would probably lose some of its charm if someone did. Oh well, that was neither here nor there.

When the looks of recognition flashed across both of their faces, a look of pure confusion crossed Nic's. They already knew each other? How? When? ...what? This didn't make any sense. Furrowing her brow, Nic gnawed on her lower lip for a moment, blue eyes moving from Jason to Kathleen and back again. She was beyond lost. She went to speak, ask them what was going on, but when she moved her lips, nothing came out. Inhaling deeply and then clearing her throat, she tried again, the tone and timber of her voice expressing just how confused she really was. "You two already know each other?" Tilting her head, she nervously wrapped her arms across her stomach. Something was going on, or had already gone on, and Nic wouldn't lie -- it worried her. "How?" she then sqeaked, once more chewing on her lower lip.

Kate was stuck frozen in place just staring at Jason. He was living and working in Providence and he didn’t bother to tell her. At first it did give her some relief because it explained why his phone number was cut off when she had tried to call him a few weeks ago, but that really didn’t matter when she realized that he didn’t bother to get in contact with her when he did move out here, and he knew that she was going to school here. Kate knew that she shouldn’t of been feeling this way, she had broken up with him a whole year ago and should be over everything that happened between them by now, but that didn’t stop the lump from forming in her throat and a terrible feeling of nervousness striking her stomach.

Nicole’s voice nearly make Kate jump, she had momentarily forgotten that she was there with them all together. Kate’s head snapped over to look at Nicole and she had no idea what to tell the girl. Yes, the two of them did know each other from before. They dated for a year, fell in love and then…all of a sudden Kate found it hard to breathe. She suddenly looked at Jason again for some sort of hint on what to tell Nicole, she didn’t know if it was going to be appropriate or not to tell Nicole the truth.

After clearing her throat and trying to get a hold of herself Kate looked back at Nicole again and attempted to give her a smile, but it didn’t work out too well. “Yeah, we worked together in Mexico,” Kate managed to say, but her voice sounded different now. At least she was telling the truth and that left Jason to take care of the rest, Nicole was his girlfriend after all. Wait. Nicole and Jason were dating. Kate all of a sudden found herself wondering for how long, or how serious it was. Her attention then automatically went back to Jason. “Wait a second, how long have you been living in Providence?” Kate asked, but it came out more like a demand.

Jason felt like he was frozen in place. He couldn't move, he couldn't speak. He didn't know what he was going to say if he could manage to get his mouth to work properly. He should have anticipated running into Kate more. He should have prepared himself for what he would do, should it happen. Living in the city that she was going to school in, it was bound to come up at one point or another. But Jason kept putting it off and putting it off, and now here he was, standing in front of her, completely clueless as to what he was supposed to do.

Kate spoke first, and then Nic spoke up. Jason's head turned to look at Nicole and he gave her a small smile, opening his mouth to talk. Kate spoke before Jason's mouth could form words, telling Nicole that they had worked together in Mexico. Turning to look back at Kate, he rose a brow at her. They had worked together in Mexico? Was that all that it had been to her? Jason swallowed hard past the lump that had formed in his throat. Well, if she didn't acknowledge their past relationship, then he wouldn't either. He didn't want it to seem like he was incapable of moving on, even though it took him a very long time to do so. But, at the same time, he didn't want to lie to Nicole. "We, uh ..." Jason trailed off, scratching his head. "Kate and I used to date, back in Mexico," he added, turning his attention back to Kate.

He was about to start the whole fake pleasantries thing, but then Kate butted in, asking how long he'd been living there. Something in the tone of her voice made Jason get defensive, like she was acccusing him of moving there purposely to spite her and not telling her. "I've been living here for awhile," he told her, instinctively crossing his arms over his chest. Jason could see the tell-tale signs of an arguement that he still knew so well, and he held up a finger. "I started looking for jobs out here when I moved back home to Seattle, but nothing was hiring, Kate. And then you made that call, so I stopped looking. And then I got a job offer I couldn't refuse a few months later, so I moved out here," he said, his tone pretty defensive.

Nic was completely at ease with the answer Kathleen gave her. They worked together. So what. That wasn't that big of a deal, right? You would have thought with the way the two of them froze up and went all silent that they were more than just previous co-workers. So her attention went back to Jason and she was about to ask him if that was true, when he tacked on his statement of: Kate and I used to date, back in Mexico.

It took the blonde a moment to compute that new bit of information and when she finally did, she felt like the air had been knocked right out of her. Nic's face screwed up ever so much and she felt extremely uncomfortable. Not only was she wearing what suddenly felt like next to nothing, but her boyfriend and new found friend had previously been in a relationship. That fact alone was enough to make Nic wrap her arms even tighter around her abdomen and bow her head a little. This couldn't possibly be happening. What were the odds? Seriously.

Inhaling softly, Nic lifted her eyes enough to look between Kathleen and Jason, and found herself swallowing hard when she heard the edge in their voices. They were about to get into it, weren't they? She just knew it. And she honestly didn't want to hear it. With her luck it would only fuel the fear in her that she wasn't right for Jason. Dropping her gaze again, the blonde stood as still as possible, her thoughts attempting to move elsewhere.

Then it hit her like a ton of bricks. Jason had been the ex that had gotten Kathleen into photography, hadn't he? The one that she'd lost contact with. Letting out a small gasp, Nic swallowed over the lump in her throat. No, she wasn't going to add anything to fuel their argument...she'd just have to ask Jason about it later.

Kate’s eyes went back to Jason when he said that they had dated back in Mexico. Hearing the two of them together in one sentence that was past tense was still hard for Kate and she could of sworn she almost flinched when he said that. Deciding it was best to just go with the flow and follow whatever Jason decided to tell Nicole, Kate nodded her head and glanced at her one more time to show that what he said was true. In Kate’s eyes the two of them did more then just date when working in Mexico, but she didn’t want to say anything else on the subject unless Jason brought it up.

When it came to Jason there was so way that Kate could pull off fake pleasantries, so she went straight to the questions. It was something that she all of a sudden needed to know and didn’t care that Nicole was still standing there with him. When Jason spoke Kate could hear the defensiveness in his voice and it caused her to fold her own arms across her chest as she listened to him. Even though there was nothing wrong with what he was saying his words seemed to hurt Kate and it showed in his face, especially when he mentioned when she made that call and broke up with him. “What? And you didn’t think I would of wanted to see you when you got a job here?!“ Kate demanded again, her voice raising a bit. She remembered when she broke up with Jason, it was about three months after they separated and then she tried to figure out when she started seeing Jamie. Kate was pretty sure that she had at least first started sleeping with Jamie about the time when Jason moved here, but Kate knew that wouldn’t of mattered or changed how she felt about Jason or the regret that she went through for making that phone call and officially giving up on the two of them. Though, now it was months later and Kate was still with Jamie and Jason had found himself a girlfriend so it really didn’t matter anymore. Right?

Kate realized how loud her voice just got so she took a step back and tried to calm down, but as the seconds ticked by the more frustrated she got. Kate looked up at Jason again, suddenly getting the urge to touch him or something. It had been nearly a year since she had last seen him, and now that they were in the same room together and all they could do was argue? The last time Kate had seen Jason was at the airport when she was leaving the island to go home, they had hugged for that and now that she was seeing him again she just wanted to continue that hug. Kate’s hand lifted instinctively to touch him, but she pulled it away quickly and shoved it in her pocket before she could do anything stupid. Touching Jason at all right now was going to be a bad idea.

Jason turned his attention to Nicole for a moment, and he noticed how she seemed to wrap her arms around herself and start to look like she was feeling a bit self-conscious. He felt bad about this happening when she was supposed to be having her photoshoot done, but there wasn’t anything he could do. His world had kind of been shell shocked by running into Kate again, after all this time. Jason had been pretty positive that he was over her, and over their relationship, but seeing her again … he wasn’t 100% sure that was true. Kate was his first real love, he knew that. And he wasn’t sure he’d ever get over her. Time would be the only thing that could tell him that.

His attention was drawn away from Nic when Kate started talking again, yelling at him about his assumptions that she didn’t want to see him when he moved to Providence. “What the hell was I supposed to think, Kate? I wanted to surprise you, I wanted to get a job out here and move out here to be with you, and I wasn’t having any luck. So I had made plans to, at the very least, come visit you and throw some resumes around while I was here. But before I could put any of those plans into motion, you called me and ended things with me. You called me, remember?” he brought up, his voice rising a little bit as well. He hadn’t forgotten that Nicole was there, but he was in the middle of being defensive at the moment, and didn’t really care. He’d explain things to her later, after the shock of seeing Kate had worn away.

“Jesus Christ,” he said, shaking his head and moving away from the two women, running his hands through his hair and counting to ten before he turned back and walked back over to the two of them, crossing his arms over his chest again. “But, to answer your question, I moved here about two or three months ago. And I didn’t tell you because I just didn’t think you’d want to know. That’s all,” he said shrugging. ’And because I didn’t think I could handle seeing that you had moved on, which I’m sure you have, he added silently, but wouldn’t even think of saying out loud.

If Jason’s comment before didn’t make Kate flinch then him repeating that she called and broke up with him sure did. She hated being reminded of what she did, it was probably one of the hardest things for her to do and something that took her a while to get over, if she was even fully got over it yet. Kate clenched her jaw together tightly and swallowed back the lump that was forming in her throat, completely ignoring Nicole now and just focusing her attention on Jason. Kate then shifted the shoulder strap of her camera bag a bit on her shoulder to prevent it from slipping off and ran another hand through her hair. Kate had to take in deep breaths through her nose in an attempt to calm herself down but it didn’t do much, it only prevented herself from screaming at Jason or even worse, crying.

“Just because I broke up with you doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t want to see you!” Kate exclaimed, trying to explain herself, which wasn’t working out too well since she didn’t even fully understand how she felt about the situation. “And why wouldn’t you tell me you were coming to visit or looking for a job? If you had just told me that you were planning on coming I wouldn’t of…” Kate stopped herself there knowing that if she went any further nothing good would of come out of it, especially since Nicole was standing right there as well. She then rested one of her hands on her hips and tried to comprehend to herself what was happening. Jason, her Jason was standing right there in front of her when she had told and prepared herself that she was probably never going to see him again.

Watching as Jason backed away for a moment and ran his hands through his hand Kate knew that he was calming himself down, probably counting to ten or something. It had been a year, but Kate still knew Jason really well, unless he had changed dramatically while they were apart. She looked at him straight on before glancing down at her shoes. “I would of wanted to know,” she mumbled, not sure if that was something she wanted to say out loud. Kate was now feeling a bit faint and it felt like her ears were burning, and the obvious explanation for that was the fact that she was suddenly hit with a huge rush of emotions that she just didn’t know how to deal with. Kate didn’t prepare herself for the chance of seeing Jason again, and right now it was taking all of her control to keep herself together.

Jason didn’t want to keep reminding Kate that it was her idea for them to break up, he knew it had to have been hard on her. But, it was hard on him too. He hadn’t been expecting anything like that when he answered his phone that day. He didn’t want to be portrayed as the victim in the situation, but there was really no other way to see it. He could tell from looking at Kate that she was trying to keep herself from freaking out on him, or even worse, crying. He knew Kate well enough to know what she did to keep herself from displaying emotions like that. He had held her while she cried at the airport, for Christ sake.

Sighing as Kate made her exclamation about wanting to see him, Jason nodded. “I know, I know,” he said, his hand moving up to run through his hair again. He didn’t know where to go from here, he was uncomfortable and just confused. He thought he was over Kate, that he didn’t still have any feelings for her. He thought that he was happy with Nicole, but now he wondered if he hadn’t just been settling for her because he was lonely. Which just made him feel like a horrible person. He didn’t want to hurt Nicole in the long run. Raising a brow at her next comment about telling her that he was looking for a job in Providence, Jason bit his tongue. He wanted to come back with something along the lines of ’You wouldn’t have what, broken my heart?’, but he wasn’t going to say that. Not with Nicole there. He was sure she had to have been confused, with her new friend being his ex-girlfriend. An ex-girlfriend that Jason still wasn’t over, apparently.

His eyes locked on hers when she looked at him, and he bit his lip. He had missed her so much, he should just swallow his pride and tell her that it was fine, he was fine, and that they should be friends. But Jason wasn’t honestly sure he could ever be okay with just a friendship with Kate. She had been his first love, the first person he had opened himself up to completely. “Kate,” he started, resisting the urge to move forward and wrap his arms around her. That would just be bad, he didn’t want to upset Nicole that way. “I should have told you about looking for a job out here, and I know that now. I don’t know if that would have made a difference with your decision back then. But that was then, and this is now,” he said, rolling his lips into his mouth. “I … I would like to be friends with you,” he told her honestly, even though the word ‘friends’ kind of felt like a slap in the face.

Kate nodded her head and bit down on her lower lip when Jason said that he knew. Obviously he didn’t if he decided not to tell her that he had moved to Providence and had been living there for a few months now. She was still furious and even upset that he seemed to think that she wouldn’t want to see him, and even started to think that maybe he just didn’t want to see her at all. She really couldn’t blame him, Kate was the one who decided to end their relationship, she gave up on them. She didn’t press on the subject because she knew that if she did it would only get Kate even more upset and start an even bigger fight.

As angry and upset that Kate was right now, it didn’t stop her body from wanting to be near Jason’s. She just wanted to give him a hug, or even touch his arm but she knew that doing anything like that would have been inappropriate. She kept her arms folded across her chest again as a way to contain herself and kept her eyes on Jason as he spoke. She nodded her head when he admitted that he should of told her about getting a job here, but she didn’t press it any further. He was right, that was then and this was now and there really wasn’t anything that the two of them could do about it now. They had not seen each other in over a year, had not talked to each other in about nine months, and both of them were dating other people now. Friendship really was all that they could do now, and as hard as it was for Kate to just be friends with someone like Jason she would rather have him as a friend then go another year without speaking to him at all. The word ’friend’ coming from Jason’s mouth did sting Kate a little bit, but she didn’t let it show in her expression. “Yeah, me too,” Kate said with a nod of her head.

After biting her lower lip again and taking one last glance at Jason, Kate turned her attention to Nicole. Part of her felt really bad for doing this right in front of her, Kate knew how much Nicole cared for Jason so watching something like that must have been terribly awkward. Though, the selfish part of Kate really just wanted Nicole to go away so that Kate could be alone with Jason, even if it was just for a few minutes. All Kate really wanted to do was hug Jason and tell him how much she missed him. There was nothing wrong with that, right? As innocent as a hug might be, she knew she couldn’t do it in front of Nicole and if Kate got started she would probably go on to tell Jason that the pain she went through from missing Jason never went away. “Nicole, I am sorry about this…”

Nic had been standing there silently the entire argument, trying her hardest to ignore the angry words coming from both of their mouths. Arguments in general bothered the blonde and it was even worse when the squabble was between two people she cared about. Nic cared about Jason probably more than she should in just two months, and she absolutely adored Kathleen, so hearing them argue was upsetting to her. Not to mention Nic got a vibe from both parties that just because they had broken up a while ago that neither were exactly over one another. Maybe not so much with Kathleen, just because she didn't know her that well, but she hearing that Jason was going to move out to Providence for her? You just didn't get over someone that meant so much to you like that. Nic knew from experience.

Hearing her name drew her out of her thoughts and she looked up from the floor cautiously, brows perked. "Hm?" she murmured, bringing one hand up to cover her mouth. She shook her head when Kathleen's apology registered with her. "No, no. It's.." my fault. But how was she supposed to know that they had been involved with each other before hand? "It's fine. No harm, no foul," she offered with a small, forced laugh before she swallowed nervously. Truth be told, Nic didn't want to be there anymore. She felt like the third wheel even though she was the one currently involved with Jason, not Kathleen. She hated that she felt that way, but what could she do? "Maybe we should reschedule," she muttered, rubbing her hands over her upper arms as she looked from the brunette over to Jason and then back to Kathleen. Yeah, rescheduling sounded like a good idea.

Jason had gotten so caught up in the argument that he almost forgot Nicole was there, so when Kate addressed her, he swallowed and turned back to his girlfriend. Giving her a small smile, he ran his hands through his hair again, trying to figure out how he had let himself get out of control like this. He never let himself lose his cool, that was just something that Jason never did. It figured that it would be Kate to be the one to get him to do something he didn’t normally do. That was what she did, though. She made Jason come out of his shell, not forcibly, but just being with her had done that. Hell, she’d even made him punch a table and break his hand way back when. The memory almost brought a smile to his face, but he shook his head to clear it.

Hearing Nicole say that they should reschedule, Jason hung his head for a minute. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to come in here and ruin your guys’ photo shoot,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest. His eyes moved back to Kate for a moment before returning to Nicole. “I should get going anyway, I have a job I have to be at in about half an hour. I just wanted to stop by and meet your photographer. I didn’t anticipate …” he trailed off, turning to look at Kate again. Clearing his throat, he picked up his camera bag. “Anyway. You guys reschedule or whatever, but I’ve got to go,” he said. He needed to get out of there, he needed to think.

Turning to Nicole, he hesitated a moment before leaning in and kissing her on the cheek. “I’ll see you later,” he told her. He hated himself for hesitating, and then even more for only kissing her on the cheek. But, for some reason, he couldn’t bring himself to do any more than that. Glancing back at Kate, he gave her a forced smile. “Good to see you again, Kate,” he said. He wasn’t lying, it was good to see her again. It was really good. And those thoughts just made him hate himself more.

Kate watched as Jason apologized to Nicole and her and nodded her head. Kate knew that even if she really wanted to she wouldn’t be able to get back to work. She wasn’t able to think straight and needed to think to herself for a bit and just clear her head. She was still in shock from what was going on and knew that her mind would be anywhere then where it was suppose to be. “It is fine Jason, you didn’t ruin anything,” Kate told him. Yes, she had just lost a days worth of work on her project, but Kate really didn’t care anymore. Jason was in the same city as her, and even though things would never be the same as before she couldn’t help but feel happy that she could see him again.

As Jason leaned in towards Nicole Kate could tell what was coming and she casually looked in the other direction. It was a simple gesture that he did towards his own girlfriend, but Kate still felt uncomfortable watching it. Kate then couldn’t help but notice that she had the same brand camera bag as Jason, but she didn’t say anything about it and just grinned to herself. “I was good seeing you, too,” Kate said back, lifting her hand up to give him a small wave good bye.

Kate then turned her attention back to Nicole, offering her an apologetic smile. “Well, small world, isn’t it?” Kate said, trying to lighten the situation up. She looked around casually and then quickly went to grab her stuff. “I am sorry, you want to do this later this week?” Kate asked. “I told Jamie that we were going to study together today, so I really should go and meet up with him,” she lied. Jamie had a full day of classes and wouldn’t be at his apartment for another hour or so, but Kate needed to get out of there.

Nic simply nodded her head in agreement when Kathleen told Jason that he hadn't ruined their shoot together, considering they really hadn't started anything. Sure, they were prepared to start the photo shoot that day, but hadn't actually done so yet. Turning her attention to Jason, she offered him a small, unsure smile. "It's okay. I understand." The kiss to her cheek surprised her a little. A kiss to the lips would have been inappropriate, yeah, but they hadn't done chaste kisses to the cheek since they started dating. Thankfully for Jason, though, Nic was too distracted to notice his hesitation in giving her any sort of parting gesture. "Yeah, I'll call you later."

She turned her focus to Kathleen after Jason had departed and mirrored her apologetic smile. Nic felt as though she should be apologizing to the brunette, but swallowed her apology when she decided to lighten the mood up some. "Totally is," she answered with a small chuckle, moving to the bench where her stuff was seated. She sat and took of her heels, quickly replacing her sneakers before she shoved the rest of her stuff back into her tote bag. "Uh, yeah. I guess just let me know and I'll take off from the salon." She then threw the tote bag over her shoulder and started digging through her purse for her keys. "I'll wash this and bring it back next time," Nic offered, tugging at the hem of the black outfit she was wearing. Changing would take too much time. All she wanted to do was get out and get some fresh air and just...get her mind off of this little incident.
