Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Papa Wicks, Mama Wicks and Baby Wicks. Or Tyler, Peyton and special guest, Emily.
What: Family dinner!
When: Monday evening
Where: The Wicks Residence

There were times in Tyler's life when he felt a little useless, a little too clumsy for his own good, and all together hopeless. But he hadn't felt like that in ages. He was married to the woman of his dreams and they had a beautiful daughter together. Okay, so things hadn't really gone as planned. They had planned on waiting for a little while before having kids, but clearly fate wanted things done differently and Peyton found out she was pregnant shortly after their honeymoon, but Emily was the best thing to ever happen to Tyler. It didn't matter to him that she was a rowdy, rambunctious, trouble-making little terror. He loved her all the same, even if she did give him a mini heart attack each and every time she began pulling down the tablecloth on the newly set table in the dining room or covered the wall in the hallway with the permanent marker she found in the garbage.

To top it all off, Tyler loved his new job. He had always been a pretty shy guy and the day before started at the office, he had hardly slept at all, but when he arrived there early the next morning, he found that his co-workers were funny and friendly, much more welcoming than his old office. He had even made quite a few friends. Life was great for Tyler and he couldn't have been more happy with the way things were going.

He left the office the same time he did everyday. 5:06. After grabbing his briefcase and punching out, he said goodbye to his co-workers, headed to the parking garage and started making his way home. Once he pulled up to the beautiful colonial house, Tyler smiled to himself and grabbed his things before shutting the car off and heading inside. The moment he pushed the door open, a blonde blur ran full-force into his legs, clinging onto them for dear life and blabbering something about dinosaurs. "Well, someone must've had a lot of sugar today," he said with a chuckle as he lifted Emily into his arms, giving her a big kiss on the forehead.

Pey certainly hadn’t been expecting to have a kid right off the bat, and while she would’ve much rather waited a couple years, Emily was so damn cute. Parenthood had it’s ups and downs, though. For instance, Pey had never been so sleep deprived in her life. Emily had been a relatively quiet baby, but now, she was making up for sleeping through the night by screaming whenever it was time to go to bed, and then screaming at random hours of the night. That paired with her energy and rambunctious attitude… it was driving Pey insane but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Still, right after her last lesson got out, Peyton rushed to the daycare to pick Emily up, and spend a couple of hours with her daughter just goofing around. As much as the tiny blonde drove her crazy, she couldn’t imagine her life without her, and kind of wanted another baby. Kind of. She missed having an infant around, and even if Emily was using up all of her energy, Pey knew that she would be a great big sister.

Hearing Tyler’s car pull into the driveway, she told Emily to attack with a laugh. Peyton came into view, her hair sticking out in random little ponytails that Emily insisted on putting in her hair, and then screaming whenever Pey had tried to fix them. Oh yes, Emily was driving them all crazy. “I honestly don’t know what they give her at daycare. She had an apple and peanut butter when she got home,” she explained, aloof smile on her face as she kissed Tyler on the lips gently. “And my mistake. We watched The Land Before Time,” she said with a shrug. Really, it seemed like a good idea a couple hours ago, but now she kept blabbing on about ‘tyranes rexes’ and Petrie, who had quickly become her favorite.

Holding Emily in his arms, he grinned at his wife before leaning forward to return the kiss. Once he pulled away, Tyler fully stepped inside of the house and closed the front door behind him, still holding onto his daughter as she continued to talk about dinosaurs. Still laughing, Tyler listened to Peyton explain everything and he finally set his daughter onto the ground. Watching her scurry off to play with her toys, Tyler moved in and kissed Peyton once more on the lips. "I hope they're not feeding her too much sugar because I think it's clear she doesn't need anymore," he pointed out in a good-natured way, looking to the side just in time to see Emily crash a doll right into the wall, head first, causing Tyler to wince. "I bet they make the kids nap so they can be nice and hyper for their parents." Tyler was pretty sure it was true, though getting Emily to nap was never an easy thing to do. The girl definitely took after her mother in more ways than one.

"The Land Before Time. Whoa, I remember watching that when I was little," Tyler remembered in a nostalgic tone, smiling as he set his briefcase down by the door and pulled off his jacket, hanging it up behind the door for the time being. "Though, I was always a little scared by that movie," he admitted, as if it was some sort of surprise that Tyler was scared of an animated kids' movie. Truth be told, it probably would've made him jump a little had he been the one watching it with the toddler. "But anyway, how were your lessons today?" Tyler headed over to Emily, sitting down beside her after he had removed his shoes and placed them by the door. Emily immediately handed him a rubber dog and he squeaked it, causing her to erupt into a fit of adorable little giggles.

She giggled when Tyler said that he was afraid of the Land Before Time when he was a kid – it didn’t surprise her in the least bit. As fine and dandy as it was that Emily took after her mother, Pey was a little worried about the kind of danger the toddler would get in growing up. Peyton lacked fear most of the time… and well, Emily would certainly be giving them bot h major heart attacks if she started following after her mother in that sense. “You really are ridiculous,” she teased, watching Emily destroy everything in her path.

Peyton took the opportunity of Tyler playing with Emily to tug all the elastics out of her hair. The toddler walked all over her and while she loved being able to spend some quality time with her daughter, she wished that naps were still in the picture. Her daycare teachers said that she napped willingly for them, so Pey didn’t know why she wouldn’t do it for her own mother. Running a hand through her har to get rid of some of the knots (it was hopelessly tangled, so she soon gave up), she entered the living room and plopped on the couch. “Lessons were alright, I guess,” she said, nonchalantly, with a shrug. “Same old, same old. How was work?” she asked, as a plastic ball came flying from Emily and hit her in the face. Peyton let out a laugh. “Watch it, squirt. I’ll get you back,” she jokingly warned the two year old, gently tossing the ball back into her lap.

Land Before Time certainly wasn't the only thing that had scared Tyler as a child. He was amused by his dinosaur figurines like most little boys were, but he was always scared shitless when it came to dinosaur movies, particularly Jurassic Park, a movie that caused Tyler to sleep with his lights on for nearly a month. He knew that dinosaurs were extinct and the chances of them coming back to life were very rare, but he still made his dad check under his bed and in his closet, just in case any velociraptors were around. "I'm not ridiculous," he told her, shaking his head as if he truly believed that he was the most normal guy on Earth.

He watched Emily squirm around a little as Peyton pulled her hair thingies out and he tried to keep the girl occupied, knowing how much of a pain it was to get Emily to stop moving around for a moment. "Same old, same old," Tyler repeated with a shrug of his shoulders, smiling at Peyton just as the ball hit her in the face. He cracked up, looking over at the tiny, giggling blond, giving her a little thumbs up. "Though someone got fired and there was this whole ordeal. He was walking around the office screaming. Apparently, he was stealing office supplies. Cliche, I know." Tyler shook his head before getting up and moving to sit next to Peyton on the couch.
