The last time that Jamie had been home was over the summer. It hadn’t been that long ago, maybe six months? The drive from Providence to Spencer wasn’t exactly an abnormally long one, but it wasn’t a piece of cake either, so Jamie’s mom had opted to fly him and his guest out instead of having them drive. His mother was ecstatic when she learned that Jamie was bringing home a girl for Christmas, and Jamie insisted over and over again that Nicole was not his girlfriend, that they were just friends. She didn’t seem to be buying it though, since Jamie had gone to meet her family over Thanksgiving, but Jamie made her promise not to do the crazy mom stuff that she did when she met one of his ex’s, and she reluctantly agreed.
Jamie grabbed a cab from his apartment to Nicole’s and then once she had all her stuff situated in the trunk, they took that cab to the airport. That way, Jamie didn’t have to pay for long-term parking, because that just ended up killing you in the long run. Once at the airport, Jamie paid the cab driver and then he and Nicole made their way into the airport and waited in line at their airline, checking their bags. Making it past security in record time, they decided to grab a bite to eat inside the airport before they went to their terminal.
About an hour later, they were situated on their plane, ready for the few hour long flight from Providence to Cleveland. It was about an hour drive from Cleveland to Spencer, but it was the best airport to fly into in Ohio, better than the smaller ones. At least, in Jamie’s opinion. The flight was relatively uneventful, with Nicole and Jamie entertaining themselves and probably annoying the people around them with their laughter, but he didn’t care. He wasn’t the hugest fan of flying in the first place, so he needed to keep his mind off the fact that he was flying through the air in a huge aircraft. It always made him nervous.
The landing was a little sketchy, but they made it safely and got off the plane, headed for the baggage claim. Without even realizing it, Jamie had taken Nicole’s hand to guide her, and once it was there he didn’t really feel like letting go. It just … it felt right. Shaking any thoughts of what that might mean out of his head, they grabbed their luggage and went over to the car rental place, grabbing a small SUV. Jamie didn’t care – his mom said she’d pay for the car rental, since it’d probably be cheaper than getting a cab to the house. Plus, Jamie’s house was in the middle of BFE, so there were really no cabs there.
Driving on the way to his house, Jamie glanced over at Nic and gave her a smile. “You excited? Or nervous?” he asked, raising a brow at her. “There’s really nothing to worry about. My brothers are harmless. They’ll probably try to hit on you, but just ignore them. My sister’ll probably adore you, so will my mom,” he laughed, nodding his head. “We live in the middle of cow country, it’s a little hick town,” he smiled again, glancing over at her. “We gotta watch out for Amish buggies once we get close,” he added. It was just getting dark outside, around 5:30pm … they’d make it to his mom’s in time for dinner.
