It was two hours passed midnight when Edward found the note. The urge to read was sudden, almost pressing that the thought of looking over his options in the library was easily dismissed and he had picked up the first volume that caught his eyes: Bella's copy of the Divine Comedy on the table by their bedside. Long fingers flipped the cover back, revealing the crisp first page and the clean script stating the title of the book, and after, he began to read. The words were familiar, ones he recalled reading before, but the voice that read the contents of the pages wasn't loud enought to drown out his remorse...
His eyes moved faster over the words, until after a turn of a page revealed a folded piece of paper. Edward's eyes widened as he saw the familiar script and after a quick glance at Bella's sleeping form, he opened the note and read. The revelation of her feelings filled him instantly with much discomfort, and not too soon, with guilt. How could he have missed all this? Perhaps it was because he was busy trying to distract her, at the same time distract himself from the events of their first night that he has neglected to consider everything else.
Edward sat still beside her on the bed, eyes unmoving as he watched her sleep and anticipate her waking, for the soft fluttering of her long lashes and the sight of her brown orbs- always a welcome scene in the morning. The note was placed back between the pages on her book, which he had left on his lap. Perhaps it was time for a little talk...
