CHARLIE: It was finally that day. The day that Charlie had been dreading more than he thought possible. He knew that marrying Edward would make Bella happy, and he was grateful that she seemed to find someone to make her happy, but it still bothered him that it had to be Edward. He had never really forgiven the boy for walking out on Bella and leaving her brokenhearted. And he also didn't think that getting married this young was the best idea, but it seemed that Bella had made up her mind. And Renee was right there with her. Making his way upstairs to the room Bella was getting ready in, Charlie took a deep breath before he knocked a couple times. He wanted to see his daughter before everything started. This would be the last time she'd be only his little girl, he'd be giving her away to Edward and she'd become a Cullen. Charlie didn't have a problem with the rest of the Cullen family, and he respected Carlisle, but he still dreaded handing his daughter over to them. Closing his eyes, he took a few deep breaths and then lifted his hand, knocking a couple times. |
BELLA: Bella was focusing on taking deep breaths. In and out, inhaling, exhaling. She was ready now, dressed in a gown that made it difficult for her to breathe -- which didn't bode well for her current means of relaxation. Alice had given her a few minutes on her own to try and calm down and get her thoughts together. The only thing that Bella truly wanted was for the ceremony to be over. She craved the significance of it that would mean she was forever tied to Edward. Edward. Perhaps he was really the only thing she couldn't wait for. He was what she needed to calm down. Him and her father. The latter of the two would appear sooner than the former. Upon hearing a knock, she figured it was just Alice again, coming to check on her and make sure that didn't jump out the window or worse, somehow ruin her dress. When the door opened however, and she saw Charlie standing there, Bella's heart swelled. Her dear old dad, the parent she took the most after. Standing, she neglected her breathing practices and grinned at him. "Dad." |
CHARLIE: After a moment or two, Charlie opened the door and glanced inside. He didn't hear any kind of indication that she wasn't decent, so he assumed she was. Poking his head around the door, he smiled as he saw Bella sitting in the chair, and then stand up. Glancing over at her, Charlie walked into the room and then closed the door behind himself. Standing in place, Charlie shoved his hands into his pockets and watched her for a few moments. Clearing his throat, he raised one hand to his mouth and covered it with his fist. "Hey Bells," he said, giving her an uncomfortable smile. He wasn't exactly uncomfortable with his daughter, he had gotten over that awhile ago. He was just uncomfortable with the general situation. He hated wearing the monkeysuit that he was currently strapped into, and Bella knew that. Pushing himself off the door, he took a few steps closer to her. "You, uh ... you look really nice, Bells," he said, nodding. He shoved his hands back into his pockets and then reached a hand up, scratching the back of his head. "Beautiful," he added, nodding. |
BELLA: Bella was used to the way her relationship with Charlie was. They were not very affectionate and sentimental words and gestures rarely passed between them the same as they might have between some other father/daughter pair, but it was how the two of them preferred it. Bella cooked and Charlie looked after her in other ways, like checking on her tires. And, of course, keeping a close watch on Edward. And so, Charlie's lack of words didn't surprise her. In fact, she was glad he didn't gush over her like Renee had done. "Thanks," she said, shrugging. "It's all Alice," she explained, glancing down at the elaborate dress she was stuck in. "I would have been all right with walking down the aisle in a burlap sack," she said. "At least I wouldn't have so much of a trip hazard." The dress was full at the bottom and the shoes she was strapped into didn't exactly fair well with a clumsy girl. |
CHARLIE: Charlie couldn't help the small smile that spread across his face at Bella's words, and he nodded. "Yeah, you and me both. Alice, it seems, got to both of us," he said, gesturing to the outfit he was currently wearing. "I would have been content in jeans and a t-shirt ... you know me," he said, giving his daughter a smile. He took a few steps closer to her again, looking down at her as he stood right in front of her. He glanced down at her, reaching one of his hands out and putting on her shoulder. "I, uh ..." he trailed off, dropping his hand and reaching it up to scratch the back of his head again. "You love him, huh?" he said simply, shoving his hands back into his pockets. He knew the answer to that, she had told him multiple times how much she loved Edward. Rolling his lips into his mouth for a moment or two, Charlie eventually reached his arm down to her again, sliding it around her shoulders and pulling her into an awkward one-armed hug. "I'm gonna miss you, Bells. Your cooking more than anything," he teased, giving her a smile. |
BELLA: Bella had never seen Charlie looking quite so put together. She was used to seeing him lounging around in jeans when he wasn't in his work uniform. But it was apparent, not just from his words and verbal confirmation, that Alice had a definite hand in his choice of attire. It was a classic tuxedo and one that her father probably never would have picked out for himself. "She did good," Bella observed with an approving grin. "You look dashing, Dad." Her quiet giggle at her word choice disappeared when he approached her and the conversation took a turn for the serious. She looked up to meet his eyes when he asked her about her feelings for Edward. "More than anything in the world," she said honestly, a faint grin touching her lips at the thought of her husband to be. When Charlie hugged her, it was hard for Bella not to get emotional. It was a day on which such a thing was expected, but it was all weighing heavy on her. She decided it would be all right to forego their usual lack of affection and wrapped her arms around her father for a real embrace. "I'm gonna miss you too, Dad. More than you know," she said, bting her lower lip to keep from blubbering. It wasn't just the wedding -- it was the fact that she wouldn't be able to see her father for months after she changed. She could never risk his safety in such a way, despite the fact that it broke her heart to not be able to see him. When he joked with her, she cracked a smile. "Just remember - no plastic in the microwave and when you cook pasta, you have to stir it." |
CHARLIE: Charlie cleared his throat as Bella hugged him, and he closed his eyes. He wasn't an emotional person, at all. He never really knew how to show emotion when it came to his daughter, and she seemed to be the same way he was, which worked out well for the both of them. But with this being the last day she'd be his Bella, he wanted to make sure she knew how much he loved her. She'd always be his daughter, even if she wasn't a Swan anymore. He nodded at her as she told him that she'd miss him too, and didn't know what to say in response to that. Glancing down at her as she joked back with him about cooking, Charlie chuckled, shaking his head as he wrapped his other arm around her and held her closely. "I know, I know. I'm horrible with the microwave, and with stirring. But I'll figure it out," he said, nodding as he glanced down at her. "Stir the pasta, drain the pasta, add the sauce. I should be fine," he smiled down at her. He rolled his lips into his mouth for a moment, wondering how to tell her what was going through his head. "I, uh ... love you, Bells," he said, then cleared his throat a little bit, looking away from her. Sometimes he wished he was better at explaining his emotions to her, but he just wasn't. |
BELLA: Even despite the fact that the two struggled with emotions around one another, when he said he loved her, Bella couldn't stop a few tears from leaking out of the corners of her well made-up eyes. It was rare the words were said, though they were always understood. "Love you too, Dad. Always," she promised. It didn't matter what she was to become or where she would be -- the fact would never change. She squeezed him tighter for a moment before drawing back altogether and wiping at her eyes with the back of hand. "Alice will kill you if she thinks you messed up my makeup," she said with a chuckle. |
CHARLIE: Charlie, himself, became a little bit choked up as Bella returned his sentiments, telling him that she loved him too. He cleared his throat, trying to hide the tears from her as he wiped at his cheeks. Charlie wasn't great with sharing emotion, but he was even worse at showing it. He didn't like to admit that he had a weakness, and that weakness was his daughter. Clearing his throat again, Charlie took a step back from her as she pulled away. Chuckling softly at Bella's comment about her eye makeup, Charlie nodded and shoved his hands back into his pockets. "Sorry, Bells. Alice probably would kill me, that's true. Without any kind of reguard for the rest of the wedding. Though, we might be able to convince her to just fix your makeup and let me live long enough to ... uh, walk you down the aisle," he nodded, his hand pulling at his collar. |
BELLA: Bella caught onto the fact that Charlie was getting emotional too, but she didn't dare speak of it. She knew it would only create and immensely uncomfortable moment for both parties involved and she didn't want to spoil the fact that they'd just shared a special bonding moment by creating an awkward one. She giggled when he spoke of Alice. She didn't put it past the littlest Cullen though. Even when Bella explained to her that it was silly to wear too much makeup on account of the fact that she had a feeling she would be getting emotional and crying it all off. She was already off to a great start with that, but when she glanced in the mirror, she noted that nothing was smudged or damaged. Weird, she thought to herself, but she didn't question it (or deduce that it was waterproof). "Is it time?" she asked, feeling her heart take off about a mile a minute. It had to be nearly time at this point and suddenly her legs felt equivalent to a jelly consistancy. "Dad, you can't let me trip," she said with a serious, almost pleading tone. |
CHARLIE: Glancing over at Bella as she asked him if it was time, Charlie glanced down at his watch and felt a knot form in his throat, just as his stomach shopped up into that general area as well. Clearing his throat, he nodded and glanced back down at his daughter, rolling his lips into his mouth. "Yeah, it's time," he told her, lifting a hand to scratch the back of his head. He gave her a smile as she told him that he couldn't let her trip, and he shook his head. "Don't worry. I won't let you trip. I'll keep a good grip on your arm," he told her. Staring at her for a few more moments, Charlie reached his arms out and gave Bella a full-out hug. He held her close to him for a few moments, before he cleared his throat and took a step back, uncomfortable with the emotion again. "Um, right. Let's get you down there before Edward thinks you're not coming," he said, then gave her a small smile. "Though, that wouldn't be horrible, you know," he teased, the smile on his face obviously telling her he was kidding. Charlie had come to terms with the idea of his daughter getting married, even if he still wished she'd wait longer. Taking a deep breath, he took Bella's arm with his and lead the way out of the bathroom and towards the staircase to walk her down to her waiting future husband. |
