(Those aluminum maille flowers are gorgeous! I don't know how I missed them before!)
I attempted to attend Katsucon but could not because:
1. I referred to my art efforts as 'small business' in private correspondence with the AA chair. 2. I sell too many different kinds of art and was told that since I did not "fit" in any one of the strict sales categories, I was unwelcome in Katsucon's Artist Areas. 3. I attempted to secure a Dealer's table, but got no replies for anyone on staff.
In light of that, I made alternate plans before any of the tax concerns, public displays of rudeness, or breach of contract issues arose. I felt cheated at the time, but perhaps it was for the best. I wish you all the best of luck--just because the con policies are unfavorable, doesn't mean that the con's attendees aren't an awesome bunch.
P.S. -- If any of you vendors augment your con appearance with panels or workshops... I submitted my workshop in November. I heard nothing until yesterday (6 days before the con), when I got word that I had an 8am panel on Sunday morning. I politely declined, as I am already confirmed committed at Far Point.
I have heard that the programming chair is new, so on his 'maiden voyage' things may have been a trifle bumpy. I would try for a panel again next year (if there are significant AA policy changes), but next time, I will take more responsibility to follow-up, rather than assuming I was not selected.
