written for the current prompt on lj_scribe:
For this week's contest, submit your response to the following prompt in the form of poetry or prose: "Down the valley, past the river, near the field where nothing grew ..."
Just a little melancholy for the joyous
Down the valley, past the river, near the field where nothing grew there is a magical golden gateway. Just a gateway, without walls, without support. And yet it hovers inches above a lush patch of sweet-scented wheat grass on a cushion of silvery clouds.
A gateway that is only seen by those the land beyond desires. A mystical passage that can only be approached by the few chosen.
A land of magic and myth. A land of fable.
A land without science.
Home only to the creatures of magic. Wizards and unicorns. Ghosts and vampires. Gods and goddesses.
Angels and demons.
The fairies live behind the gateway, emerging only to spread their playful ways over the land of man in the midnight hours.
Beware the siren's call. Those born of man who enter, will never walk the Earth again.
