Fandom(s): Avatar: The Last Airbender
Genre: General
Pairing: Azula
Summary: For Azula, it's the lies that give her security.
Prompt: Azula - security
Author Notes: This comes from the episode from the third season called "The Headband". It is where Zuko has come to talk to his sister to see why she would help him out with their father but we all know that Azula does nothing without a reason. Anyways I hope you do enjoy this. :D
Laying in bed and listening to the fading footfalls of her brother's boots, Azula hugged her pillow closer to her and let the smile widen even further upon her lips. She had learned at an early age that lying was much better than speaking the truth. She could make herself even believable in her lies that even her own brother had fallen right into it.
Twice now.
He had been gullible to believe that she had done anything to improve his standing their father's eyes. It had been more to save her own hide by giving him the full credit. She might have brought down the Avatar in the Caves beneath Ba Sing Se but she was not stupid to believe that he had died. No, she knew better than that. She knew the Waterbender that was with him probably healed him or had seen to his healing elsewhere.
So why not let her brother take the fall? He was stupid enough to believe she held his best interests at heart and wanted to believe her because she was his sister, which made her able to continue to wrap him in her web of lies all the more sweeter to her.
As the smile faded from her lips, Azula realized that lying had become her security...that she could depend upon it whenever she needed it and it also kept her in her father's good graces. The more she lied, the more she had the ability to pull in those weaker than herself and draw them into her world. And soon she would be able to use them in ways they would be disposable.
All she had to do was continue to keep her lies alive and those around her believing them. She could not afford her security to be broken or for others to destroy it. She had built far too much for it to fall and she would do everything to insure her lies were never exposed.
Everything.
