"You don't care anymore." The harsh metallic voice hissed. Crimson eyes glared toward the scruffy mad scientist. "You used to treat all of your creations like all of them were special, all of them were unique, all of them were your sons. Now you can't bear to look at us."
Albert Wily's callused hands, worn from years of building and repairing robots with tender care, trembled in his lap. Cobalt eyes stared at the back of the sawblade-bearing robot that had been his first-built son. Metal Man, who had always been faithful. Metal Man who had been the dutiful, loving son.
And even he had lost faith now.
"Metal Man..." The old roboticist rasped.
"No. No more." Metal Man hissed.
Dry words formed on Wily's lips. "...I'm...sorry." With that, he looked down toward his hands, and let the first tears in years fall.
Title: Time Stopper
Fandom: Mega Man Classic
Character/Pairing: Flash Man, Quick Man
Rating: G
Word Count: 211
Prompt: 1 -- Time
Disclaimer: Mega Man belongs to Capcom and Keiji Inafune.
Summary: Time may wound all heels, but perhaps it heals all wounds too?
"You never take time to savor the moment." Flash Man frowned.
Quick Man glanced to his brother. "Why should I? The moment has never done anything for me. The one time that I did savor the moment, I was flooded with all the pain of the galaxies at once, crushing every circuit without even touching me. I never want to be frozen in time again. Ever."
Flash Man closed his eyes. "You mean when he used Time Stopper on you?"
"Yes."
"Smart little runt. Takes a bright kid to stop the fleet-footed fighter in his tracks with his biggest weakness."
Quick Man tensed up. "That doesn't mean it didn't hurt."
"No one said it didn't hurt. No one says that the present won't hurt either." Flash Man carefully placed his hand on his elder brother's hand. "But the future hurts just as much when you're rushing toward it and forgetting to take a little time for what's important."
Quick Man's eyes misted up. "...Funny thing...time. It hurts no matter what."
"But it heals all wounds too. I promise." Flash Man rubbed his brother's back. "...So you can take some out of your busy schedule, can't you?"
"Yeah. So...Flash. What do you wanna do?"
"I dunno. Maybe checkers?"
"You're on!"
