Paradise (NCIS, Prompt 110), What Lies Beneath (King of Fighters, Prompt 27)
Title: Paradise
Fandom: NCIS
Characters/Pairing: Gibbs
Rating: G
Challenge/Prompt: #110 -- Freedom
Word Count: 150
Summary: Idyllic paradises don't always free us from the memories.
Mexico was an idyllic paradise. Leroy Jethro Gibbs had to admit it. But even relaxing with Mike Franks and doing the occasional building job didn't free him from the memories of his team.
What would they do if they were here? He wondered that once in a while, but told himself he didn't care. He did, of course. But anger blinded him and made him need to escape from his old life.
Occasionally, his mind slipped to Agent Todd. Her death had been a shock to his system, and a painful one at that; Ziva had avenged her in a way, having killed Ari. Once in a while his mind even entertained thoughts of Tony DiNozzo, Timothy McGee, Dr. Donald Mallard, and Abby Sciuto. Those had been some good times. Had been. But those days were over now.
And yet he wanted to go back. Freedom? No. This was prison.
Title: What Lies Beneath
Fandom: King of Fighters
Characters/Pairing: Shen Woo/Duo Lon, Ash Crimson
Rating: G
Challenge/Prompt: #27 -- Blackout
Word Count: 181
Summary: Even unconscious, the memories flooded, and he would be happy to wake up.
The blow Yamazaki delivered to Shen Woo's head was enough to leave him out cold.
Physically, his body was unconscious, but the inky blackness of mind was at work, playing memories like little reels of tape. Snippets of memories came to him. His childhood. His teen years. His adult years. All painful and lonely. All on the street.
Faces swam in his mind: the people he had fought, the people he had befriended, the children he'd protected from an angry shopkeeper after they had stolen just to live, the gangsters who wanted him dead so they could have the Dragon Pills, and even his teammates Ash Crimson and Duo Lon. The former probably could care less, but he knew the latter would be worried about him.
A falsely saccharine voice echoed. "Oh mon Dieu!" That was probably Ash.
"Wake up, Shen." A quieter voice spoke. It was warm and reassuring without speaking more than those few words.
Blue eyes darted open. He'd survived the flood of memories, and was happy to be in Duo Lon's gentle arms as he came to.
